AGA LAB is a maker space for artists and designers - in Amsterdam West - offering techniques ranging from etching to screenprint and digital printing.

AGA LAB facilitates professional artists, designers and photographers with all the equipment and knowledge they need. From Monday through Saturday the studio is open for use. AGA LAB also developes many projects and programs in which research and experimentation are leading, serendipity is embraced and artists from other disciplines are invited within the Artist in Residence program.

Winter Artist-in-Residence — Open Call

AGALAB is opening last-minute applications for its Winter Artist-in-Residence programme, with residency availability in October, November and December 2026.

The AGALAB AiR programme offers artists, designers, photographers and other practitioners a dedicated space for research, experimentation and the development of new work. Residents have 24/7 access to AGALAB’s shared workshop and printing facilities, alongside technical expertise, a spacious workplace, a shared kitchen, and the opportunity to conclude the residency with an exhibition at De Bouwput’s gallery space.

The residency is particularly suited to printing practitioners who want to spend focused time developing a project, experimenting with materials and processes, or exploring the possibilities of print, ink and image-making within their practice.

Available periods

October 2026 — with or without accommodation
November 2026 — without accommodation
December 2026 — without accommodation

Both national and international practitioners are welcome to apply.

Winter Artist-in-Residence — Open Call

AGALAB opent een laatste oproep voor aanmeldingen voor het Winter Artist-in-Residence-programma, met beschikbare residentieperiodes in oktober, november en december 2026.

Het AGALAB AiR-programma biedt kunstenaars, ontwerpers, fotografen en andere makers een inspirerende werkplek voor onderzoek, experiment en de ontwikkeling van nieuw werk. Residenten hebben 24 uur per dag, 7 dagen per week toegang tot de gedeelde werkplaats en printfaciliteiten van AGALAB, evenals technische ondersteuning, een ruime werkruimte, een gedeelde keuken en de mogelijkheid om de residentie af te sluiten met een tentoonstelling in de galerieruimte van De Bouwput.

Artist-in-Residence August:

Nesie Junyi Wang is a Chinese artist based in The Hague. She bridges art and research to explore the intricate relationships between humans and the environments they inhabit. Her practice is grounded in material research and fieldwork. She is currently an artist-in-residence in the Environmental Biotechnology section at TU Delft.

Artist-in-Residence August:

Vanessa Leißring is a German photographic artist and lecturer. She studied Photography and Art History. During her studies, she gained professional experience in London, working as a photographic assistant for photographer Martin Parr and at Magnum Photos.Since 2023, Leißring’s artistic practice has focused on Ovid’s Metamorphoses, which serves as a starting point for an exploration of the transformations described in his work. She investigates these themes through the transition between different photographic and image-making processes, working experimentally at the intersection of photography, artistic research and emerging digital imaging technologies. Her ongoing project Metamorphoses brings together photography, AI-generated imagery and traditional printmaking techniques, exploring the transformation of images from analogue processes to contemporary digital forms of image-making.

Cinzia Cioffi is a Cape Town-based graphic designer and illustrator. Operating in the realm of bold, surreal visual communication, her work pushes traditional design boundaries through high-impact contrast, photo integration, and tactile experimentation across digital, print, textile and spatial environments.

Artist-in-Residence August:

Romina Koopman is intrigued by how the digital image can change our perception of reality. She positions herself in the grey area where the tangible and virtual worlds converge, questioning the role of the screen as a border. Her work reflects on how the photographic medium, within the digital era, creates a new ever-evolving truth.

She approaches photography as a shape-shifting medium, rejecting the image as a flat surface; a view expressed in the materialization of her work: digital and analogue. This translates into a wide range of printing techniques that are often presented together in multimedia installations, focused on challenging our habits in today’s image consuming society.

Workshop: Photo-Etching with TOYOBO plates

In this workshop, we’ll transfer a digital photograph, design or drawing onto a TOYOBO plate and print from it. TOYOBO plates are light-sensitive photopolymer plates that can be exposed with UV light using a photo-positive transparency to create an etched printing surface. This versatile technique allows you to reproduce photographic and drawn imagery with the rich tonal qualities and tactile character of classical etching.

🎟️ Workshop fee: €185
The workshop fee covers most of the printing materials for the session, and you will get one extra day for free in the AGALab workshop to come back and experiment further!

⚠️ Important:
You must bring a printed positive print of your photo over a transparency (maximum A4).

Our workshop calendar for September and October is here!

Save the dates — details and registration for each workshop will be announced soon.

This season, we’re bringing back our collaboration with Painting Plants , an open-source research garden exploring plant-based dyes, pigments, and inks for printing and textile applications. We’ll be continuing our experiments with these materials across different techniques in the workshop.

We’re also working on a special masterclass in our silkscreen department, with more information to follow.

Last week, we helped artist Kelvin Dijk prepare work for their upcoming shows.

During their time at agalab, Kelvin worked with our silkscreen facilities to produce larger-scale prints on fabric. Using the textile table, they developed and printed different layers of their work.

Our textile table is available for artists looking to work with larger-scale screen printing on fabric. We are open for bookings — get in touch with us to learn more.
