I, the amateur is a combination of ideas on capitalism, waste and amateurism translated into handmade paper using dryer lint waste and old paper from previous years, with silkscreen prints made from grass/spinach waste ink.

STRANGENESS IS: is an audio-visual installation about the world from different perspectives. The world exists out of particles where everything interacts which humans can’t see. We only perceive such a small part of the world and yet we are treating it as if it’s a blank canvas waiting for us to paint on it. Frameworks like our language are biased, your consiousness is not reality. Our blood contains iron and our water contains salt. Non-human entities are not merely instruments good for human success

ON SPOT ON: SHENOA VAN ENGEN

A project that started from my desire to engage more physically with my craft as a graphic designer. Discovering an unused letterpress machine at school, I delved into its rich history and hands-on process. Inspired by Niek Smaal and Ruud Huysmans, I began experimenting with modern materials like acrylic to create a font that connects the old and the new. This project is about sharing the beauty of letterpress, aiming to inspire others to appreciate and explore this amazing machine.

Phonetic Sculptures explores the letter forms and expansion of the Latin alphabet. The goal is to create a new set of Latin alphabets that can represent all sounds by incorporating the phonetic system of Korean. It is an experimental typographic journey and a process of how my journey can be completed as a graphic design.

ON SPOT ON: SARA VAN VEEN

Hagelslag Harvest
My project is a culinary journey that triggers your taste buds but also invites introspection into the origins of our food and its significance in our lives. Through a six-course dinner, my guest will delve into the story of cocoa, from the beginnings as a fruit to the transformation into a dutch delicacy - Hagelslag, or chocolate sprinkles. For this dinner I created my own tableware. The different tableware will reveal questions during the dinner, these questions invite people to talk about the origin of food and their view on the origin of their food. In my installation you’ll see footage of the cooking and this dinner, in combination with the tableware I created.

ON SPOT ON: HANBLE IQBAL NAEEM

Entre dos aguas: My culture doesn’t belong to a land, it belongs to my people and my place in time. This documentary uses poetry and food as a medium for storytelling. The work pays special attention to culture and its relation to time and friendships rather than the traditional conviction of it belonging to a land or a fixed moment in time. It serves both as a critique to past and current colonial struggles as well as a call for community wellbeing through eating.

“Where there’s a man-There’s a Marlboro” is a video collage work that emphasizes the Western and Eastern masculinity images created by social institutions, culture, advertising, and history, and unravels the image of men in the image in a confrontational structure and a new video aspect ratio. ON SPOT ON: FLEUR VAN DIJK

Discover how ornamentation brings depth and character to a construction without it being a mere embellishment. Ornamentation is a doorway to a deeper engagement with art, allowing the viewer to delve into all the intricate details.

This installation combines hot stamping foils with a diverse tile system to create various patterns. Providing an insight into how craftsmanship, an artist’s personal style, and generating different outcomes, can elevate ornament to its highest potential.

ON SPOT ON: NINA SLOOTS

My best friend turned to spirituality. She grew closer to herself, we grew apart. I saw her spirituality as a coping mechanism, only to realize later that it was mine as well. Spirituality became my greatest aversion. As part of my journey, I did something I never imagined myself doing; I went to a monastery.

‘Geloof je het zelf?’ (Do You Believe It Yourself?) is a short documentary exploring what it truly means to believe in something. Through conversations with the sisters and my friend, this film explores whether believers and non-believers can find common ground, and what friendship means when perspectives diverge.
