Amélie
A girl with large, sorrowful eyes looks back at you. Carved in linoleum, with bold lines and strong contrasts that emphasize her vulnerability. The restless linework surrounding her reflects her inner world—a sense of loneliness she longs to break free from. Not by seeking attention, but through small, quiet gestures that bring a bit of happiness to others.
The image carries both softness and melancholy, but also hope. Because within those small moments lies the power to create connection.
This illustration is partly autobiographical. As a child, the artist often felt alone and found comfort in drawing—a way to better understand the world around them.
Inspired by Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain, where a similar search for love, meaning, and small moments of joy takes center stage.
Een meisje met grote, droevige ogen kijkt je aan. Gesneden in linoleum, met grove lijnen en contrasten die haar kwetsbaarheid versterken. De onrustige lijnvoering om haar heen weerspiegelt haar innerlijke wereld—een gevoel van eenzaamheid dat ze probeert te doorbreken. Niet door op te vallen, maar juist door kleine, stille gebaren die anderen een beetje gelukkiger maken.
Het beeld ademt zachtheid en melancholie, maar ook hoop. Want juist in die kleine momenten zit de kracht om verbinding te maken.
Deze illustratie is deels autobiografisch. Als kind voelde de maker zich vaak alleen en vond troost in tekenen—een manier om de wereld om zich heen beter te begrijpen.
