Eigenlijk heb ik er de woorden niet voor, woorden zijn (helaas) nooit mijn sterkste punt geweest. Beelden wel, daarom past deze actie die door bedacht is ook zo goed bij mij. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Maar toch een poging om woorden toe te voegen. Oorlog komt hard bij mij binnen, ik snap niet hoe mensen letterlijk over lijken kunnen gaan. Sinds het overlijden van Silas vind ik het nog extra moeilijk om beelden te zien en berichten te lezen van kinderen die komen te overlijden en nog vele malen erger als het vermeden had kunnen worden. Het leven is zo kwetsbaar en kostbaar, hoe kunnen mensen daar zo harteloos mee omgaan? Het breekt mijn hart en de pijn, verdriet en rouw die ik voel voor Silas wordt bij elk bericht in mij opgeroepen. Zo veel mensen die hun dierbaren moeten verliezen terwijl dat niet had gehoeven.⁣⁣

Daarom vond ik het nodig om hoe klein dan ook een steentje bij te dragen. En hoe mooi is het dat we zonder moeite zeven andere illustratoren hebben kunnen vinden die daar ook graag onderdeel van waren! ⁣⁣

What defines my work is that I work for mission minded brands. To me that means that I work for brands who want to change this world for the better and all of them in their own unique way. My heart is saddened deeply by the war in Ukraine and I’m looking for my own way to help (more about this later) and as always I find it hard to post on Instagram about work and everyday life when the world is in a dark place. But I wanted to share about one of my favourite clients, Shelter City . To show that there’s also light in this world and that we are not alone. Side by side 💙💛⁣

Shelter City is a global movement of cities, organisations and people who stand side by side with human rights defenders at risk. They offer them a safe and inspiring space where they re-energise, receive tailormade support and engage with allies to reinforce their local actions for change.⁣
Shelter City believes that everyone should be able to safely contribute to a better world. With their support, they aim to enable human rights defenders to continue their work with renewed energy and in a more safe and effective way.⁣

I had the pleasure of doing their rebranding last year and will share more about the rebranding soon but for now their tagline keeps running through my head. Side by side 💙💛

It has not been such an active year on social media for me. Maybe because of what’s going on in the world, maybe because it doesn’t always feel right to show off work, maybe because my personal life has been undergoing major changes but definitely not because I’ve not been busy!⁣

As you may know, I’ve been back from maternity leave for a couple of weeks now and I’m lucky to have a fully booked calendar already but I also want to recap what I’ve been working on this past year with you guys. From branding to magazines, to illustration and campaigns, I’ve had the pleasure of working on some cool projects! For now, I’m still learning to juggle being a mom and running a business but I will update my website and this feed with my latest work. I can’t share all the projects I’ve worked on yet but here’s a sneak preview of more in-depth posts soon to come!⁣

These last couple of months I had the pleasure of working on the rebranding of De Marketing Ninja. ⁣
⁣
It resulted in a branding that’s true to De Marketing Ninja’s core values, vision, mission & promises. I then developed a visual identity that visualises the power of the ninja combined with marketing and developed a custom made font of cut out letters. • UPDATE⁣
Maybe some of you guys have noticed I haven’t participated in the challenge for the last week. I really haven’t felt right talking about business and about me when my parents and brother are living in the middle of the heavily infected corona virus regions in northern Italy. I also know of a couple of families that are going through tragic times unrelated to the corona virus. These kind of events hit home hard for me and my heart goes out to everyone who is scared, hurting or fighting a hard battle right now. I wish you all the strength and love that you need.⁣
⁣
I’ve tried to convince myself the resume the March meet the maker challenge but I’ve decided it’s okay to stop when something doesn’t feel right anymore. Instead I’ve decided to resume with my challenge I stared last year. Last year I started drawing 100 places around the Lago Maggiore. I grew up on the shores of that lake and thus it’s a very personal project and with that beloved region going through very hard times right now I wan’t to put my energy towards sending some extra love to the place I call my childhood home!⁣

• MARCH 13th | USP⁣
I had to think about this one but I guess that my main USP is that I’m a designer who loves technology. I often hear people saying that I’m so quick when they see me working on the computer and I love learning about new programs and apps. ⁣
⁣
I also like to understand what I’m dealing with so that when I’m working with developers I know what they’re expecting from me. And I’m a sucker for gadgets and tools and always on the lookout for new ones to help me in my design process…⁣
⁣
I know there are many designers and mostly illustrators out there that feel that working digitally is “cheating” and that has made me doubt my work in the past but does it really matter how you do what you do? Isn’t the result the thing that matters the most? You do you, whatever way you seem fit is my motto! 💪🏻⚡️

I have come to think of my “geeky” side as a positive thing. I work pretty fast when I’m in the zone and I’m having lots of fun while doing it ⁣👩🏻‍💻

• MARCH 12th | LEARNING CURVE⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I would like to re-use my post from last year for this prompt because I feel that is still one of the most important insights I’ve had in my career of 12+ years. And one I need to remind myself of every time doubt or opinions of other people start creeping in (because all human beings have to deal with doubts).⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here’s a little tile wisdom (tegeltjes wijsheid for the dutchies here) for you guys. As I’ve mentioned before I have a bachelor degree in Communication & Multimedia Design but to be honest I think learning is all about doing. I have had too many years of very little productivity because I was too scared of failing… and I regret that so much! I’m older and wiser now (at least I hope I am) and know that the only way to learn is by doing and failing and doing some more. The more you do the faster you’ll learn. Don’t be scared of the failing part, we ALL have to go through that part to get better! So keep on doing your thing 💪🏻🌈⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Ha! Well I know that right now one of the most heard advices is to find a niche and to stick with it. I have a niche when it comes to the kind of clients I’m helping out but my work ranges from visual identities to typography to illustrations and more. I like to say that I build custom made stories.⁣
