I colored this story of Hanco Kolk, about the origin of Batman, for the book Pep Nu, an initiative by Ger Apeldoorn and published by Uitgeverij L. I wanted to challenge myself, and decided to make use of triadic contrasts. Triadic means a palet of 3 colors oposite of each other in the colorcircle, usually used to get a dynamic atmosphere. With this technique of computer altered watercolor textures I never really know upfront what the result will be. And in this particular case I was afraid that I bit off more than I could chew because I could not get the result I wanted. The only thing to do then is just keep on going and trust that the result eventually will show. It was a relieve when I finally got a satisfying result :-)

It's not always line art that I am coloring. Every now and than I come across something otherwise challenging. For example these wonderfull illustrations by Amanda Majoor for the Hellships-project by Stijn Schenk of Real Comics. At that time I had been scratching behind my ears how to solve this. Apparently I did. And when I was prepping the images for my website https://www.marloesdekkers.nl
, at first I couldn't remember how I did it. After a while I figured it out; selecting the grey and playing around with Photoshop's color balance. It worked out surprisingly well, I did remember I was happy with it :-)

Look! Jacqueline Govaert from Krezip has a cameo in the newest album no. 14 of Nachtwacht, published by Standaard Uitgeverij Strips.
We just finished production of this new edition, where the magic trio goes on an adventure to fight nightmaremonsters. For the first time the drawings were done by Patrick Vanon Van Oppen and scenario by Nico De Braeckeleer. Inking by Louis Clement

It's been a while since I posted some work. Not only been busy with several assignments, but also with revamping my website www.marloesdekkers.nl
I added new projects to my portfolio and one of my personal favorites is the coloring for Jan Cleijne and his contribution to the 'Hellships' project initiated by Stijn Schenk
of the The Graphic Story . I wanted the readers to feel the suffocating heat of the tropics and the despair of the prisoners of war caught in reminiscing peacefull times.
