Denis Popov

in short, I am a product designer with passion for meaningful concept development. “Popov” is my surname and I am a young product designer.

During the Bachelor and Master studies at the Delft University of Technology I developed great interest for design in its broad sense of the word starting from developing a product idea by sketches up to refining last details for manufacturing and building a brand around it. Any designer needs to be skilled in many disciplines to be a good one and I am continuously doing my best to improve. In my

work I try to seek for balance between the rationality and emotion. At the end of the day, any product should solve the problem it is designed for. It will though inevitably evoke emotions and associations with the most unrelated things just like a car has a face. Curiosity is one of the most important drives in my work. Many projects derive from an observation or a simple question “What if…” and I am always keen about what this can evolve into. I love to impress people whether it is an idea sketch or a technical solution. My graduation project at the university combined the most of my interests and skills and also partly defined the direction of my present work with Xtenders, a strong brand that designs and builds custom full carbon motor yachts.

I am proud to announce that the embodiment of the 10.0m concept drawn in 2012 was launched this year. The new concept has been designed and engineered to fit into an incredible yacht Savannah.

My work included the concept redesign, detail design and en design for manufacturing. It was a pleasure to work with a number of renown parties from different parts of Europe such as Trimarine (Portugal), Marstrom (Sweden), Vripack (Netherlands) and Structeam (UK) to bring the design together.

My design was included into the 86m yacht concept by Feadship for the Dutch Royal Family!

Each year Feadship develops a yacht concept for a fictive client to push the yacht design in a new direction and expand the boundaries of yacht building.

This year they chose to create a concept for the Dutch Royal family which resulted into a surprisingly exhilarating yacht with both, public and private spaces onboard.

One of the features is a drive-through tender garage where they decided to place my design.

In this album I will post a compilation of my graduation project at the Delft University of Technology. Project was performed for the company Xtenders (Netherlands). Back then company designed and produced RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boats) tenders. Tenders are support boats for large superyachts.

Based on their unique V-shape of the existing RIB hull I designed a new type of tender to expand their portfolio.

After the market research, diving into the world of superyachting and multiple design iterations a new type of tender was born. It was meant to become a multi-purpose tender that could facilitate daytrips and leisure activities at the same time representing her Mothership during hospitality events and guest transfers.

It is now being engineered and built for one of the superyachts by Feadship. Delivery date Summer 2014.
