Stoked to work with awesome Kiwi businesses.

A proper thank-you to everyone who's trusted me with their website and online presence over the years. None of this works without people being willing to back you and hand over a part of their business - and that's not something I take for granted!

Good to be in the corner of so many solid, down-to-earth operators across the country - These are the types of practical businesses that keep wheels turning in NZ!

Cheers for having me along for the ride.

Does your website have these six things? Because if it doesn't, it's probably costing you business.

- Brand alignment - does it look like your business as it is in 2026?

- Site foundation - do you have pages for all the individual services you offer?

- Content strategy - are you regularly updating with the projects you're completing?

- Social proof - are you getting Google reviews and showing them on the site?
Lead generation - is your website actually producing its own leads?

- AI readiness - are you leveraging AI tools to make management easier?

Want to see where your website ranks on these six? Complete this free audit (takes 60 seconds): https://www.skdigital.co.nz/free-website-audit/

A competitor agency recently sent a client a 15-page monthly report. The first half was dedicated to defending their pricing.

That's not a report. That's a sales document with extra steps.

The dynamic is well understood in this industry. Business owners are too busy to dig into pages of charts and acronyms, so the strategy becomes volume over clarity. The thickness of the report becomes the proof of work.

It rarely is.

The honest test is whether you can describe what your agency does for you in a single sentence. If you can't, the report isn't the problem. The relationship is.

Spent a decade rowing at an Olympic level.
A lot of that is still ingrained in how I run the business.

Obvious stuff first - work ethic and being honest about the numbers. In sport you either won or you lost. No spinning a result. Either you got better or you didn't.

That carries straight into how I want to run things now. I want to work with business owners wired the same way. People who genuinely care about whether the work is moving forward.

Feels like a big moment getting my first fuel client's website live.

Stoked to get this one over the line for RD Petroleum Ltd. Big project, full of fun hurdles, but the final product has come out great.

Nice, clean, simple, and easy to use was the name of the game here - and it feels like a pretty cool achievement for SK Digital.

RDP have been a familiar face across the South Island for years. Bulk fuel, home heating diesel, lubricants, fuel storage, aviation fuel, and a network of self-serve sites from Nelson through to Invercargill. Their customers aren't logging on to be wowed by a website. They're there to find a fuel site, sort a delivery, or get set up with a fuel card.

So that's what we built. A site that gets out of the way and lets people find what they need.

Big thanks to the RDP team for trusting us with it.

You know that competitor. Not as good as you, but they're everywhere online. Better website, more Google reviews, ranking for the services you actually do.
It's not because they're better.

It's because someone's sorted their digital presence and you haven't.

The customer who doesn't know the difference is choosing based on what they can see, not who does the better work.

It says a lot about a business when they build the platform AND write the book to help their users succeed.

Last week I was at the launch of Creative Freedom - the new field kit from the team. It's aimed squarely at people starting out in design, marketing and web.

All the foundational stuff nobody tells you when you're trying to build a creative business. The kind of stuff you usually only learn after you've cocked it up two or three times.

For the unfamiliar - Rocketspark is the NZ-built platform I run every single SK Digital website on.

They're also the team that quietly backed me through the messy transition from rowing to running a business, and they've built one of the best communities of designers, freelancers and small business owners I've ever been part of.

That's the bit that gets me. They didn't have to write this book. There's no commercial pressure to do it. They just genuinely want the people using their platform - and the wider creative industry - to do well.

That tells you everything about who Grant Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Richard King, Lee Reichardt and the Rocketspark crew are and what they're about.

Side note - I opened the book at the launch and ended up reading my own quotes back to myself on a page about specialising in a niche. Wise words apparently. Now I just need to take my own advice!

If you're starting out in design, marketing or websites - genuinely pick this up. It'll save you a few of those expensive lessons.

Was a privilege to speak at the launch and acknowledge the impact this team's had on my career and SK Digital. Excited for what's next.

Check out the book. https://www.getcreativefreedom.com/

Let's Make Things Simple

Time for a re-introduction.

Olympic gold medallist who builds websites. Bit of a weird career change, I know.
I won gold in Tokyo in 2021 and then did what any normal person would do - started a website business from my kitchen table in the Waikato.

Turns out the same stuff that works in Olympic sport works in business. Genuine work ethic. Clear communication. Taking pride in what you do. And just delivering when it counts.
100+ websites later, I'm still running the same playbook.

If you're a tradie, builder, or service provider in NZ and your website isn't pulling its weight - have a chat.
