A lot of people may wonder why it's such a big investment to hire a designer. Here are my thoughts on why design can seem so expensive.
💖 Design involves brand strategy and an entire brand experience
Brand strategy is the first step before we dive into the design details. Before designing a logo, we need to set up the foundation of your brand. The goal is to build a solid, long-lasting business and that starts with your brand strategy. Clients often overlook this part when thinking about design - we all want to see the final results without the hard work in-between! But it’s this ‘in-between’ work that ends up being the most magical, and for many clients, it's their favourite part.
There's also a lot that goes into a branding project (logos, colour palette, fonts, imagery etc) and it’s this whole package that creates successful and memorable branding for my client’s businesses.
💖 Design takes time
For each concept that I present to my clients, there are hours of experimenting and testing behind the scenes. I have to account for all of the hard work and time that I put into each project when I determine the pricing. The cost also accounts for a designer’s experience. I’ve been working as a designer for 10 years and I know what my skills and experience are worth in the industry. I charge what I believe my time is worth; years of study and experience has gone into my ability to create what you’re paying me for.
💖 Designers have expenses
Designers have the same overheads as any other business. The tools we use in our work can incur a big cost, such as software subscriptions for design or accounting, business or marketing tools, and everyday expenses. As with any business, our pricing reflects the expenses we need to keep our businesses running.
Working with a designer can be expensive, but at the end of the day, it’s for a good reason!
