Happy New Year!

It has been an exciting year with lots of travel, new experience, new perspective. Fortunate to work on large, exciting, sometimes even transportable new builds, extremely remote renovations, beautifully energy efficient homes in the mountains... but sometimes the smallest of projects bring most joy, because these bring people together.

Like this 3.5m long steel outdoor table with fire.

The lightness of design of this long table, without any middle support, is deceiving, because this table will not be moved by the wind weighing more then 300kg. It seats at least 12people and entertains with in-built fire place and led ambient lights.

Hoping 2023 will be about sitting at a table and making this world a bit better as a team... there is lots to do!

Proudly involved in smart projects around our beautiful New Zealand...

Some huge, some tiny… all smart and all SIPs!

Beautiful SIP structure coming together in a nice rural setting.

A meeting of minds:-
- SIPs meets steel.

While the Structural Insulated panels in our buildings perform alot of key roles (structure, insulation, bracing) - sometimes we just need some bigger, stronger elements in the structural mix to do the heavy lifting, and create clear open plan spaces.

It is always better to keep the steel in on the warm side of the SIPs 'sausage'. That way we can reduce thermal bridges (pathways for heat and moisture through the high-performance envelope), and then if so desired - celebrate an honest expression of it.

On our two current projects - we have this approach, but with a markedly different visual outcome:
Matt black to stand out against painted/stained SIPs for our off-grid large rural home, and
White to be lost against limewashed SIPs for our rural MHU++

Will be interesting to see how both compare once painting can begin.

We are working on new pre-designed homes. Help us chose the right direction! Designing smarter layout, can result in building smaller, but by no means less comfortable. We can design smarter homes, which in turn means you can afford more insulation, better windows etc. And with fewer external walls....
