We at Stride are feeling just as shocked and gutted as you are to see that the Horse of the Year show has been put on hold and that there will be no 2026 event.

Michelle and I have been working hard in and behind the arena, creating content, interviewing riders, and building up a really special bank of stories. We know how excited the riders we’ve spoken with have been to see their interviews and features come to life, which makes today’s news even harder.

We are absolutely gutted for the show and for all the people involved. We were genuinely excited to be part of it this season and to bring you the media and coverage you deserve.

We’ll keep sharing great content from incredible shows, riders, and equine businesses throughout the season, and we hope Horse of the Year will return in the future.

This is not the post anyone wishes to write or read. We have had to hit pause on HOY 2026. That by no means is the end of our iconic and very special show and we want to reassure you we are already looking at what the 2027 event may look like. It is a joint decision made by our board and our shareholders Hastings District Council and Equestrian Sports New Zealand.
Our small team has chased every avenue possible to secure financial support to meet sustained cost pressures that come alongside reduced commercial and trade partnership revenue. We are not alone in this struggle – numerous large scale entertainment all over the country have been cancelled in recent months. Without that financial buffer, we just don’t feel we can deliver the event to the standard expected of New Zealand’s premier equestrian show.
We’ve had to make the call now because December 1 was when our schedules were due to go out, tickets go on sale and we push go on some big infrastructure contracts.
This is as devastating for our team as it is for everyone who loves the show as much as we do but we will be back!
Thank you to everyone who continues to support our show. We appreciate each and every one of you and let’s all look forward to hearing the HOY anthem ‘Stand up for the Champions’ in 2027.

The weather last week was questionable 🙃 but we had fun anyway. Shout out to MVP dog rugs, which are 100% waterproof, windproof, and apparently… camera-compatible. No sausage dogs were harmed in the making, except for the one that missed out at the show on a nice dry coat 🫣

That’s a wrap on the Royal Canterbury A&P Show for 2025! 🌧️☀️🏆

Three days, four seasons, and more mud than our gumboots signed up for… but what a week!
We squeezed in every shot between our sold-out pre-booked content, dodged hail storms, and somehow still came out with memory cards full of magic.

A massive thank you to everyone who follows our journey, books with us, and supports our content creating madness, it means the world.
We’ve got some exciting contracts and projects coming up, and we can’t wait to take you with us.

For now… it’s time to wash the mud out of the gear, put our feet up, and have a well-earned rest.
