Rob Attfield Web Developer

Rob Attfield Web Developer I am a NZ-based web developer, and looking for NZ-based or remote web development vacancies. My favourite framework is Laravel, and I dabble in Linux.

I am currently working remotely as a contract web developer for Sunny Side Up (www.sunnysideup.co.nz) - a Wellington-based web development company, while still living in Dunedin NZ. I am also a father, partner, cricket and Bitcoin enthusiast. I'm also a fan of the 'under-dog' - Leicester's title win in the 2016 EPL is the best example I have seen to date, followed by Japan's narrow win against the

Springboks in the 2015 RWC. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology and a total of two years work experience. My main speciality is back-end web development; however, I am flexible and am willing to try new things. I love to code in my spare time, and also manage my own Linux-based servers. My current framework of choice is Laravel, and favourite language is PHP. I also am very interested in Java, C #, Ruby on Rails, and HTML/CSS/JQuery. When developing web development projects, I like to use Composer - in combination with Bower, Grunt, and Node Package Manager. Very recently, I have taken a liking to BackboneJS - for which I plan to use in my latest personal project. I have solid organisation and time management skills, am very thorough, like to consider multiple solutions from many angles, and genuinely want to use my skills to benefit others. I also love working in an Agile environment with frequent collaboration between team members, management, and clients. Ideally, I would like my role to be in the South Island - I am also open to remote working from home. If you want to find out more about me, you can visit the following sites below:

I'm delving ever deeper into the AWS rabbithole now... One of my tasks today was to assign an IPV6 address to my AWS instance (dual stack). It took a while for the process to become straightforward, but in the end I successfully completed the required steps.

The guide I followed can be viewed at https://4sysops.com/archives/assign-an-ipv6-address-to-an-ec2-instance-dual-stack/comment-page-1/ -1116395. My successful implementation is on my latest SearXNG experimentation at https://icanfindit.online. You can check IPV6 settings of my URL by running it through the IPV6 readiness test at https://ready.chair6.net.

The procedure to assign an IPv6 address to an EC2 in AWS is amazingly complicated. In this guide, I walk you through all the hoops you have to jump through. Why would you want to add an IPv6 address to your EC2 instance? For me, it was a huge difference in internet connection speed. This tutorial ca...

I've recently came across SearXNG and decided to experiment with it... Have it up and running via Docker on Amazon AWS @ https://icanfindit.online, and plan to make tweaks as part of my re-learning.

The SearcXNG projecxt can be found by visiting https://github.com/searxng/searxng-docker. If you're wanting a video to walk you through the initial set-up, NetworkChuck has a great YouTube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifT6npY39Dw.

Here's another Covid19 map by John Hopkins University in the US: https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html. There's also this one - https://covid19map.co.nz/, which most people would probably know about by now.

For any web developers who are interested, there's also an API from John Hopkins University here - https://covid19api.com/. This shows some very useful global data on Covid19, and provides more granular breakdowns via regions, states, municipalities, etc. Am going to have a play around with this myself (perhaps with a new Javascript framework I haven't come across yet, with my stock standard Laravel).
