Our TRENDS team had the pleasure of attending the 2024 APPA New Zealand and Australian Roadshow held across Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with our customers and be a part of an outstanding industry event. The APPA shows serve as an excellent platform to reconnect with industry peers, showcasing the latest market trends, innovative products, branding techniques, and upcoming advancements.

We took pride and excitement in presenting a diverse range of products, including our exclusive in-house brands, BRANDCRAFT and TRENDSWEAR. Additionally, we featured our new range of fashion colours across existing and recently launched products.

The event drew more than 1,200 distributors and featured over 60 exhibitors. We look forward to the upcoming AU Promo Show in August and the NZ Promo Show in September to reconnect with our valued industry partners.

On Wednesday last week we had an all staff meeting to unwrap the year that was 2023. We presented people with their long service awards and certifications some had achieved this year.

The Grand Business South Awards 2023 were held in Dunedin on Friday the 17th of November. These awards celebrate the remarkable achievements of businesses in our region.

It is our absolute pleasure to announce that our founder, Jim Robertson, received the Dunedin City Council Distinguished Leader Award for 2023!

Unfortunately, Jim was not able to attend to receive the award, but our CCO and Jim's son, Pat Robertson was available to receive it on his behalf.

It is our pleasure to introduce you to Pam Homer, our Chief Human Resources Officer.

Pam has been with our company for 26 years and was one of our original Lawrence employees. In 1997, joining the Tuapeka team brought the total admin team number to four, this consisted of Jim Robertson (Founder), one artworker, one account manager, and Pam as the assistant. The printing and production staff numbers were around ten, making a total of fourteen staff overall.

Pam’s original employment terms were to be part-time, but she started and worked full-time leading up to Christmas to get through the “busy season”, after that part-time never eventuated, and she hasn't looked back since. From that time onwards the company grew year on year and it wasn’t long before both admin and production numbers had doubled, tripled, and so on until our current number now stands at 520 staff.

Over the years her role has progressed from Accounts Assistant to Accounts Manager, followed by Office Manager to Finance and Administration Manager, and then in 2018 a complete change to Human Resources as HR Manager, progressing in 2022 to Chief Human Resources Officer.

"Like many others, my favourite thing is the people and our culture. The staff work hard and sometimes they forget to take the time to celebrate the small things, but they are still one big family, they look after each other through the good and the bad times, and they still know how to have fun and have respect for one another."

When we asked Pam what her highlight of working here was, she noted that there have been many highlights for her over the years but specifically, the wonder in the continual year-on-year growth of the company from a small home-grown business to what it is today. To this day she still finds it an incredible story and that she has been lucky enough to be part of it. Especially the people who have made this happen, those like herself who have come into the company at a lower level and progressed through time and experience to operate at a higher level, along with all our production and warehousing teams. Our people work hard every day and this is what has made Tuapeka what it is today.

"The future of Tuapeka will always be bright as long as we look after our people, the drive to achieve and be the best we can be is part of our Company Vision, Mission, and Culture, we have many young creative, and innovative people working in our midst, given the opportunity these people will flourish, grow and develop into the leaders who will drive the Company forward, these people will be the future of Tuapeka. This is exciting and what I look forward to seeing."

We have been so lucky to have Pam for the last 26 years and we look forward to many more to come!

We are pleased to introduce the Executive Team as part of our future growth plan for Tuapeka. Recent appointments of Jonathan Elliott, Chief Information Officer who started in January and Julie Brooks, Chief Financial Officer who started in July. We are delighted to have such a strong executive team leading the business.

The existing Executive team members are Greg Jolly, Chief Executive Officer, Tim Hannagan, Chief Operations Officer, Pam Homer, Chief Human Resources Officer and Pat Robertson, Chief Commercial Officer.

The Customer Services Operations Manager, Cathy recently left New Zealand on a five-month trip to the Philippines to collaborate with our Clark-based staff. Since her arrival, she has settled into the environment, even embracing the occasional presence of frogs in the kitchen, and starting her workdays as early as 5.30 am in the office.

Her focus during this stay has been dedicated to spending time with our CSR group and coaching them, she is also focusing on time with Order Entry, Art, and Preflight teams. She is looking at their workflows and processes with the aim of identifying areas where improvements can be made. Additionally, she actively participated in the CSR and O/E team huddles, where she spoke for an hour on our mission to transition from "good to great." This chat touched on our distributors and their love for our brand, our ethos of building and maintaining strong distributor relationships and the values which underpins this, and the importance of taking accountability for their work while promoting a culture of avoiding the transfer of errors to other departments.

Cathy will continue to work with our team for another four months before returning to our Dunedin office.

We are pleased to introduce Tim, our Chief Operations Officer.

Tim joined our team in 2018 as our Production manager. Prior to joining to Tuapeka he was studying law and working in the manufacturing industry. Tim was newly appointed as our Chief Operations Officer earlier this year as part of our future growth plan for Tuapeka. This role incorporates the daily running of warehouse, production, health and safety, engineering, R&D along with managing the strategic direction of production and warehousing.

When we asked Tim what his highlight of working here was, he pointed out that it revolved around witnessing the growth and personal development of individuals within the team as they build their careers. Tim takes pride in observing team members strive to enhance their skills and advance their professional journeys.

He expressed his anticipation of witnessing the ongoing expansion of the business, through the collective efforts of teams collaborating to enhance the customer experience. And, he looks forward to observing the ongoing development of individuals and the establishment of a succession plan.

When asked if he could describe the company in one word, he replied – Community. Tuapeka is all about the people.

We are on the hunt for a Multimedia Designer to join our Marketing team 📸

The Multimedia Designer role will focus on working closely with our marketing team to understand the design requirements and objectives of each project, creating graphic design concepts and examples to demonstrate potential ideas to ensure the creative direction aligns with project objectives, and producing a range of quality marketing material and imagery for our website and marketing channels.

The successful candidate must have:
✔️ 3+ years of experience in graphic design or similar multimedia design roles.
✔️ Strong and creative graphic design skills.
✔️Advanced knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premier Pro and After Effects.
