Guess what? Women fart!
I know your shocked right, well so am I. But not at the fact women fart, because you know what, we’re human, we also s**t and yep it stinks and no not like roses!
Did you know we also build houses, fly airplanes and drive trucks, we surf, we skate, we play rugby. We are your Mothers, Daughters, Sisters and Aunties and Nieces.
I’m disappointed in the latest criticism of my work and how few people think before they speak, or don’t research their topics before they hit out, words are hurtful.
Yes, you might be fighting for your rights and views and beliefs and good on you for standing up to The Man (Society why is it always The Man?), but how does that give you the right to pass judgement on someones art. Art is open to interpretation and judgement, I get that but in 30 odd years of being an artist not once has anyone called me out questioning “Quite possibly the most obvious and disturbing question the artist is forcing us to confront is, why does the lady look like she is squeezing out a fart, one eye closed, one leg cocked as if to say “yes it was me” I mean we all do it, but in a martini glass?
And no I’m not trying to tell you “your fragile and incomplete vessels full of liquid” and no I’m not being sexist or perverted.
I’ll tell what I am doing, I’m empowering women! My way and the way I wish I was empowered!
All my life I’ve been told, you can’t wear that, you’re too fat, your too thin, your hair is to long, you hair is to short, if you got rid of those dot’s on your face you’d be so pretty. You better not eat that, you should work out more, you work too hard, you’re a s**t mother, your fat and lazy!
When I was asked to create a logo for CORSET a new exciting bar opening up in Newcastle, NSW, Australia. My eyes lit up with delight, this is awesome, finally a logo I can relate too and help pull me out my depression and anxiety. The female form is full of beautiful round curves, shapes and contours. I love drawing women, no I’m not gay, but I love shape and art and beauty and I can appreciate the sexiness of a woman.
To me a woman with curves, confidence and class is the most aspiring of gifts. And to have the confidence to step outside and show the world that confidence, well damn if you can do that your my hero!
2020 was a horrible year for most, the pandemic that swept the world also changed my internal world. Through a life changing break up with my husband, a mystery illness possibly Multiple Scelrosis, chopping my finger off and being out of work for 3-4 months and battling the fight in my head with Anxiety and Depression. I found a release with art.
This design was created completely out of my respect to my fellow female warriors, you don’t need to be brave, you are strong, loved, wanted and needed, without you the world will not continue. Love your dreams, be sexy, show off, be proud and stand tall.
I’m in the words of RuPaul, “if you can’t love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else!”
