We love getting the chance to work with Southlanders who are taking great ideas well beyond our own backyard, and this time we’re shining the spotlight on Laura Thompson ONZM, CEO and Founder of āhei .
Laura is a Paralympic athlete and the driving force behind āhei, a platform helping kaiako and coaches across Aotearoa create physical education and sport sessions that work for every child, no matter their ability. With ready-made sessions, adaptable resources and practical guidance, āhei helps make inclusive movement easier to plan and deliver.
It’s work that really matters. Movement and sport can have a huge impact on wellbeing, confidence, teamwork and connection, and āhei is helping make sure more tamariki have the opportunity to take part, grow and succeed, regardless of their starting point.
We’ve had the pleasure of working with Laura and supporting āhei by bringing our design skills to her activities, worksheets and resources. It’s been pretty special to see a project being driven from here in Southland making a difference for teachers, coaches and tamariki right across the country, and the scale of āhei just keeps growing.
We’re incredibly thankful to be supporting Laura and the work she’s doing, and we love seeing fellow Southlanders creating meaningful change on a national scale.
