Good Lorde.

When it comes to Out of Home media advertising, Phantom are one of the originals and also one of the best. Always innovating and pushing boundaries to show the power of OOH marketing, but one of their latest releases proved just a little bit too popular with fans who cheekily took the opportunity to add a poster to their wall collection. Being good sports Phantom gave a few away to some lucky Lorde fans. Nice work Phantom. 🙏

How to get a high ROI in printed publications.

As a member of the Mapua Districts Business Association (MDBA) I recently had the chance to project manage the new MDBA Directory.

This is a publication which has been in the region for quite some time. I know.. why use a directory when you can just use Google?

The short answer to that is that sometimes it is just easier to grab the info from a publication you have lying around, especially if you know the info is in there. At our household we do this with menus in the 3rd drawer down all the time.

So this got me thinking about when print can be used to great effect. I don't subscribe to the theory that print is dead because certain publications have real value, but it certainly doesn't capture the market it once did (inspiration and ideas can now be sourced via from a number of amazing sites on the internet), so businesses have to choose wisely when it comes to their advertising and branding budget, because often the publication is only around for a short amount of time, and it can be costly to maintain monthly placements.

The new MDBA Directory is an amazing example of a print publication that has incredible return on investment for business owners. We knew we had to make it beautiful so it wouldn't look out of place on a coffee table and we knew that it had to have information that people would genuinely use, like local ferry timetables, Top local attractions, eatery and shopping guides, maps, community info and very useful info.

But what makes this even more valuable is that it went to every household in the region that the MDBA serves (about 6000 households) and the print cycle is 18 - 24 months. So because it is useful it gets used over a long period of time, which gives a fantastic ROI for those businesses who placed ads in it.

So when looking at print think about the life cycle and the usefulness of the publication. A quarterly, half year or yearly print cycle of a mag that has holding value may offer similar benefits and also provide a cost saving.

This St John mobile app can genuinely save lives. I have done the St John first aid course but it was a long time ago.

Now with the aid of technology we can all have that life saving information at our finger tips. St John is one of those organizations which in our opinion are unsung heroes, which is why they are one of the Good causes Good Media support. I don't think we really appreciate the work they do until we need or use them. Check out and download the app. You just never know when you might use it.

As a committee member of the Mapua Districts and Business association (MDBA) I have recently had the pleasure of working with Slightly Different who not only create fantastic websites but they also provide the hosting services too. Steve and MJ from Slightly Different exceeded our expectations for the MDBA website refresh. Watch this space for the launch.

Ngā mihi o Matariki, te tau hou Māori! - Happy Matariki!

Good news - on Friday the 24th of June 2022, Matariki (the Māori new year when the Matariki cluster of 9 stars becomes visible on the horizon again) will become a new public holiday in New Zealand, that will focus on the coming together of whānau and communities.

More good news! There are already many events across our region celebrating Matariki, including this free celebration that features kapa haka groups, a diverse range of kai and refreshments, Māori arts & crafts, and fireworks.

Wishing you a happy Matariki from us here at Good Media 🎇

Here at Good Media, we love good news. So we wanted to share the success story of one inspiring woman, helping to revitalise her home town of Reefton. Haven't heard of Patsy Bass, Reefton or Little Biddy Gin yet? Then it's time to get up to speed! Take a look.

Meet our Founder and Chief Executive, Patsy Bass, who was born in Reefton.

Looking for ways to contribute to the revitalisation of her home town, Patsy wanted to build a business that would create jobs, bring visitors to the town and encourage others to set up businesses on the West Coast. Having spent her early years living on the site of the Westland Brewery, establishing a distillery was a natural step.

From a mere concept to a $10M+ business in two years, employing 20 staff and currently fitting out our new 1ha distillery on the edge of town, it’s fair to say Patsy gets things done.
