Good article on designing an effective small business website - if you are wanting to create or improve your small business' online presence I'd love to help you get sorted

When a client first thinks about building a website for their business, they, somewhat naturally, want for that website to "be all things to all people." Best practices for designers designing small business websites, and how to balance client wants versus needs.

Fancy creating your own website and want to make sure it's secure, google optimised, easy to update and looks good on desktops & phones. Prefer to work with a local who can guide you when you get stuck?

"After outsourcing my website to consultants in other countries – that seemed to have a cheaper hourly rate – the lack of understanding and slow results frustrated me and in the end it would have been much more effective and efficient to use Suze from the get go."

Hi again! I have been immersed in delivering the online pilot of Confidence, Enjoyment & Connection so haven't posted in here for a while. What an inspiring group of ladies ranging in age from mid teens to mid 50's. The 4 weeks flew by with so many beautiful ah-ha moments. Such a privilege to hear their stories of how their horses transformed before their eyes when they applied the mind and heart skills they were learning. I will definitely be running more online courses, so drop me a line if you are keen to get on a future one.

This weeks image is of the lovely mum Lily and her 5 month old son Calypso. Lily was lucky to join a family that didn't ignore her change in attitude after Calypso was born. She became angry and defensive and they didn't judge her for it - they just wanted to know what they could do to help her feel safe and loved.

Lily showed me this wasn't the first time she has had a foal. Sadly Lily's previous foal was taken from her too early and she was frantic, as any mother would be. This time around Lily was taking no chances and was aggressively protective of both Calypso and herself. When I explained to her that Calypso was staying with her until they were both ready to live independently she softened. I was also able to tell her who wanted to include Calypso in their herd in the future - this was someone Lily knew and trusted so a load was lifted from her heart.

We are both mammals and should never forget the compulsion mammals feel to nurture and protect their young - we are more similar to horses than we may care to admit...

Sometimes having horses in our lives can get really complicated - mysterious health issues (for both of us...), advice from 'guru's' coming from all directions, nagging questions in your heart about doing the 'right thing' by you horse, this list goes on and on and on....

Personally this year I have had quite a few times when I got stuck wondering what to do with my fulla, Fly. The irony was each time I played with the thought 'what if I'm not the best person for him' things changed. I know this doesn't sound like 'positive thinking' but somehow it gave me the humility to stop trying to be the 'best' person and just do the best I could with what I knew at the time and let that be enough.

I stopped attaching to the outcome of our time together and let 'trusting relationship' be the most important thing. If that couldn't be found in the saddle then I got off and started at first base - standing together quietly, sometimes with my ear on his belly listening to him breathe (when a girth on he often breathes so shallow that I don't feel any rise and fall).

My ego fought with weapons of shame like 'you are an experienced rider - get on and sort him out' but my heart said there is no win/lose in trusting relationship - only lose/lose or win/win - trust cannot grow individually at the expense of another - it's an 'us' game.

This got me to thinking about what my life with horses had been all about. And I realised at the heart of it was a little girl hugging a hairy pony knowing that she would love horses for the rest of her life, come what may.

Thank you for liking this page - it has taken much soul searching and detours for me to step into supporting horses and riders find happiness together. I wish you and your horse a very Merry Christmas ###

Today I it dawned on me that I only need to ask myself one question after I ride:

Did I do a good job as leader today?

Expanded out I can ask where do I sit on these sliding scales:
Calm vs Anxious
Assertive vs Aggressive
Effective vs Ineffective
Empathetic & Connected vs Disconnected & Self-Obsessed
Gentle vs Rough
Focused vs Distracted or Dithering
Clear Communicator vs Nagging or Confusing
Playful vs Dull or Lacking Confidence
Responsible vs Blaming
Trusting vs Micromanaging
Planned vs Lacking in Purpose
I got this from these words from a Parelli magazine article.

Flyboy's job: calm, connected and responsive
My job: embody leadership that will make this as easy as possible for him

How do you rate your rides?

BTW we both did a really good job today in an environment that included two screaming stallions in the tie up, dogs in the undergrowth, rattling dried lupins, a new addition to the ridden part of our track and our longest trot to date. Fly and I thank you Penny and Graeme for your support in growing my leadership skills.

PS. pretty good questions to ask of my parenting too...
