What a legend Charisma was

🌟🐴 Remembering Charisma — The Legendary Kiwi Eventing Star 🐴🌟

Born 30 October 1972, Charisma — affectionately known as “Podge” and “Stroppy” — became one of the most beloved horses in equestrian history. Standing just 15.3 hands, this small but mighty gelding proved that heart, courage, and partnership could outshine size or pedigree. 💪🇳🇿

Ridden by Sir Mark Todd, Charisma captured the world’s attention with his incredible performances in the sport of eventing, winning:
🏅 Individual Gold – 1984 Los Angeles Olympics
🏅 Individual Gold – 1988 Seoul Olympics
🥉 Team Bronze – 1988 Seoul Olympics
🥈 2nd Place – Badminton Horse Trials (1984 & 1985)
🏆 Winner – Luhmühlen 3-Day Event (1986)
🏆 British Open Champion (1987)

Charisma’s journey began in Wairarapa, New Zealand, where his easy-going nature and surprising talent quickly stood out. Though small, he had a giant personality — once even jumping out of his paddock as a yearling!

Under Todd’s guidance, Charisma became a global icon, inspiring fans across generations. After his second Olympic gold, he retired to New Zealand and lived out his days happily until 7 January 2003, when he was humanely put to rest at age 30.

Charisma’s legacy continues to shine — from being voted Best NZ Sport Horse in the World to carrying Mark Todd and the Olympic torch at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. In 2020, he was inducted into the Equestrian Sports New Zealand Hall of Fame. 🌿✨

Gone, but never forgotten — Charisma remains a symbol of Kiwi grit, spirit, and the unbreakable bond between horse and rider. ❤️🐎
