Brand new to the WWW is Edwards Contracting, a 20-year-old Hawke’s Bay business that (like so many successful small businesses) has always been flat out without much need for marketing.

But owner, Damian Edwards, wanted a digital presence that was as professional as their physical one, and an easy and well-presented way to be quickly found online.

The site is a simple, affordable, single-page scrolling website with lots of clean white space, high visibility contact buttons and (if I do say so myself) some damned sexy photos of trucks.

And that’s not a sentence I ever thought I’d say till I saw the Edwards fleet.

Social media advice often feels like it’s written for 20-somethings with endless free time and a ring light. But what if dancing on TikTok—or even showing up there at all—isn’t your vibe?

The truth is: no, you do not have to dance or lip-sync to succeed on social media. In fact, unless you're Gen Z, we'd strongly advise against it.

Keeping up with Google’s constantly changing algorithm makes me hungry. But sadly, the latest way to keep your website current has nothing to do with food.

E.E.A.T stands for:

* EXPERIENCE - Does your website show first-hand knowledge of the topic?

* EXPERTISE - Are you showing a high level of skill or knowledge of the subject?

* AUTHORITATIVENESS - Does your website establish you as a leading source of information?

* TRUST - Is the website and the content credible and accurate?

If you can say a loud YES to all of the above, you don’t need me. But if you’re not sure, I’ve put together a quick little blog which explains E.E.A.T and how to achieve it. I don’t want to stuff you full of confusing info. It’s bite size. Link in bio.

Hands up if you’ve found yourself switching from Google Search to ChatGPT to answer (way too many) questions you need from the world wide web lately?
I’m definitely waving both hands above my head right now. In only a matter of months since mainstreaming GPT and Perplexity as personal and professional tools, I am left wondering how I managed to learn ANYTHING before it.

It’s handy. But if you have a business and website, what does it mean for you and the bottom line?

Even ChatGPT freely admits its been programmed to keep you on-platform and not send you to websites for direct-from-source information.

So how the heck do we get people to find us online when our websites are just getting bypassed?

Want more likes/engagement and just to generally stop the scroll past your social media content?

Then show up! People connect with people, not brands.

Photos with faces (especially the account owner) get 38% more ‘likes’ increase engagement rates by up to 50% compared to stock or generated imagery (like this one, lol).

But if you’re anything like me, you might feel really uncomfortable putting photos of yourself up for public consumption. But there are definitely ways to turn this feeling around and it starts with professional photography with proper camera gear instead of an iPhone, and having someone who knows what they are doing pressing the button and editing the image.

This week, Gmail rolled out a new ‘manage subscriptions’ feature, allowing users to easily see and mass unsubscribe from all marketing lists. No more scrolling to the end searching for the tiny ‘unsubscribe’ link.
And since nearly half of all NZ email users are on the Gmail platform, some people are wondering if this is the beginning of the end for email marketing.
We don’t think it is, but it DOES mean no more lazy email campaigns. Here are a few of our top tips for staying on the ‘subscribed’ list.

This week, Gmail rolled out a new ‘manage subscriptions’ feature, allowing users to easily see and mass unsubscribe from all marketing lists. No more scrolling to the end searching for the tiny ‘unsubscribe’ link.
