📣 A big step forward for Bookkeepers!

This one has been years in the making. 💚

The new Tax Bill introduced this week includes a proposal to create a dedicated Bookkeeper intermediary category, formally recognising Bookkeepers as a distinct group within New Zealand's tax legislation.

This is something NZQBA has advocated for over many years, and was a key part of our submission to Inland Revenue earlier this year.

There is still a legislative process to go through, and some parts of the wider intermediary framework are still being considered, including the 10-client rule and professional body membership requirements.

But this is a really exciting step forward for the profession and one we're very happy to see progressing! 🥳

We've gone through the 200+ pages of Bill commentary and pulled out the important bits for Bookkeepers, including what else you need to know about upcoming FBT and GST changes.

🚩 You're working through a client's accounts and something doesn't look quite right...

Inland Revenue NZ has recently issued a Revenue Alert highlighting several areas of concern in the horticultural sector, and there are some important things for Bookkeepers working with horticultural clients to be aware of.

But we think there's a bigger lesson in it too.

Bookkeepers see an enormous amount of what's happening inside a business. That means you can often be one of the first people to notice when a payment, contractor arrangement, piece of documentation or process doesn't quite make sense.

You don't need to be the tax expert.

You just need to know when something is worth a second look, and when it's time to bring in someone who does have the answer.

🕵️ MISSION DEBRIEF: Natalie Tolhopf

A HUGE thank you to for joining us again at Mission Impossible: Bookkeepers – and this year, she brought a friend.

Meet Saly. She's cardboard. She's fabulous. And she certainly knows how to make an entrance. 😂

Natalie's session was all about something every bookkeeping business should be thinking about: how do you keep great clients AND create more revenue from the clients you already have?

She challenged our delegates to think beyond simply winning the work – looking at the entire client journey, strengthening relationships, spotting opportunities to add more value and creating the kind of business clients genuinely want to stick with.

And because this is Natalie, sitting quietly and listening for an hour was never going to be an option.

Our delegates were up on their feet playing netball to demonstrate the flow of a sale – bringing the process to life in a way we're pretty sure they won't forget anytime soon. 🏐😂

It was practical, interactive, full of energy and packed with ideas our Bookkeepers could take straight back to their businesses.

Natalie, thank you for challenging our delegates to think differently about client retention and revenue, for bringing ALL the energy, and for once again being such a fantastic part of our conference. 💙
