At Lumé PR & Events, our mission is about connecting Asian and Kiwi audiences through the power of connection, culture, and storytelling. We recently had the true privilege of providing premium bilingual emcee services for “A Chip Odyssey”《造山者》, a touching documentary screening held in Auckland.

With over a hundred guests in attendance, our host kept the energy warm and engaging from start to finish. By speaking seamlessly in both English and Chinese, we made sure both local and international guests felt genuinely welcomed and included.

A big thank you to the fantastic audience for your warm support, and to the organisers, speakers, and crew who made this event a huge success. Whether you are planning a business seminar or a cultural milestone, Lumé PR & Events brings the professional, bilingual stage presence your event deserves.

When we sat down to film our final insight session with one of our speakers - Ronnie Cheung, she shared a behind-the-scenes look at why she chose to partner with Lumé PR & Events for our recent Employability Edge event.

“Lumé was recommended to me by someone I trust. As I did my own research and began working with the team, I saw how professional and efficient everyone is. That level of ex*****on aligns perfectly with my own values, and I knew right away I wanted to be part of it.”

At Lumé, we believe that professional ex*****on is about the silent, seamless backend coordination that allows our speakers and community to thrive.

Hearing Ronnie recognize that dedication means everything to us. But what resonated most was her definition of success for the night:

“If even one person in that room gets their dream job after this, we have won.”

That focus on real, human impact is exactly why we do what we do.

Thank you, Ronnie, for bringing your invaluable expertise, your “Recruiter’s Reality Check,” and your heart to our community. 🤝

Following the synergy at our recent Employability Edge event, we sat down with Maria Pooley to share a refreshing perspective on what it truly means to show up to the interview with genuine confidence. It is time to step away from rehearsed interview formulas and embrace a more grounded, authentic approach.

💬 Drop the “small talk” trap. When we over-prepare rehearsed small talk, we usually lose our natural authenticity. True confidence doesn’t come from a perfect script. It comes from simply getting out there, chatting with people, and making real everyday connections. The more you practice just interacting naturally, the easier it flows when the pressure is on. 🤝

🎯 Redefine the interview dynamic. An interview is just a two-way conversation between peers, not an interrogation. Employers aren’t there to scare you; they are simply looking for someone who can help them solve a problem. The fact that you’re in the room means they already believe in your potential! Shift your focus from trying to win their approval to simply showing how you can be helpful.

💼 ✨ Skip the “fake weakness” cliché. We’ve all been tempted to use those textbook answers, like calling yourself a “perfectionist”. However, experienced managers see right through them. Real professionalism is just about being honest. When managers look at your potential, they aren’t searching for a flawless, polished facade. They just want to see the real you: your genuine enthusiasm, your commitment, and a true willingness to learn. At the end of the day, those are the human qualities that actually open doors. 🚪

Behind the Silence: Why Employers Go Quiet After the Interview (And How to Follow Up) 💼

Ever experienced the sudden silence after an interview? It’s easy to internalize it as a personal failure, but the reality behind the curtain is often very different. Following our recent Employability Edge event, we sat down with talent director and career consultant tor Ronnie Cheung to unpack what actually happens on the employer’s side during periods of silence.

💬 “First of all, don’t take it personally—because it is not always about you. The employer or recruiter might be managing hundreds of applications across dozens of active roles. It’s a volume and timing challenge, not a reflection of your worth.”

Navigating this space requires a blend of patience and strategic persistence. Instead of waiting in ambiguity, take control with a polished follow-up strategy. Shortly after the interview, send a brief email thanking them and cleanly reinforcing how your skills align with the role. If the silence persists, wait 7 to 10 days before reaching out a second time to gently check on your status and offer any additional details.

Professional ex*****on isn’t just about how you show up in the room; it’s about how you manage the space between conversations with poise and presence.

Following our recent Employability Edge event, we sat down with one of our speakers, Dani Mao (Employability Manager & Career Strategist at ), to discuss her experience collaborating with us. Her perspective captures the core mission behind Lumé:

💬 “What I like about Lumé is the way they bring people together in the same room across cultures—especially between the Asian and the Kiwi communities. When we get into the room, when we can exchange ideas, listen, ask questions... when genuine conversations start, you can open the first door.”

In today’s market, breaking barriers requires more than a digital connection. It requires being “in the room.”

💼 At Lumé, our goal is to design spaces where cross-cultural dialogue thrives, ideas flow with ease, and those crucial first doors are unlocked.

The “No Local Experience” Paradox Is Real—Here Is How to Break It 🔄

If you’re navigating the job market, you know the loop: You need experience to get a job, but you need a job to get experience. 💼

Waiting for a specific job title isn’t a strategy—it’s a holding pattern. 🛑

Following our recent Employability Edge event, Lumé PR & Events sat down with one of the speakers Dani Mao (Employability Manager & Career Strategist at AIC).

She shared the ultimate mindset shift to break the cycle:

💡 “Stop waiting for that job title to give you the experience, and start building your evidence of capability now.”

The breakthrough isn’t just about doing the work—it’s about translation ✨ Whether it’s a targeted internship, a group project, a part-time role, or a sharp 2-minute networking pitch, the magic happens when you learn how to translate those outcomes into undeniable proof of your value. 📊

The market may be tight, but you own your narrative. 👇

True professional impact isn’t about how much you can fit onto a page—it’s about relevance, clarity, and alignment.

In the early stages of our careers, the instinct is often to overstuff our CVs with every task we’ve ever completed. But sophistication lies in precise alignment.

In this highlight from our recent Employability Edge event, Phoebe Kao, our incredible Emcee of the day breaks down exactly what hiring managers actually look for:

✨ Target It: Align your skills directly with the specific needs of the role.

✨ Prove It: Don’t just list responsibilities; demonstrate your unique impact.

✨ Simplify It: Strip away the noise. If your friends can’t read it and instantly grasp your value, a busy recruiter won’t either.

Your unique background, personality, and personal story are your greatest assets. The goal is to translate that narrative into a language that the New Zealand job market understands and deeply values. 💼🇳🇿

“You don’t need more generic advice. You need the unvarnished truth.”

The room was packed, the energy was electric, and the message was clear: the old rules of hiring are gone. At our recent Employability Edge event, we went behind closed doors to uncover what it actually takes to break into the 2026 market.

The Reality Check:

• AI is the new baseline. A degree gets you to the entry line; your strategy gets you past it.

• Stop the “Void.” Sending a thousand applications isn’t a strategy—it’s exhaustion.

• Connections over Code. Your career doesn’t start with an HR portal; it starts with a conversation.

We’re bridging the gap between “qualified” and “hired” through sophisticated, high-impact experiences.

Watch the highlights for a glimpse into the unspoken rules of the Kiwi job market.
