I am a registered independent Taupo-based celebrant and a member of the Celebrants Aotearoa (CANZ) and have previously served on their national executive and am the immediate past president. With a lifetime in the communication and public relations sphere, it's my love of people and the intersections at important times of life that's drawn me to be professional celebrant. It's such a privilege to help facilitate and celebrate beautiful futures, wonderful lives, special moments, family, friends and occasions.

What are you celebrating?

We often think of ceremonies for weddings and farewells, but there are so many other moments in life worth marking. 🤍

A new baby, a naming ceremony, graduation, renewing your vows, moving into a new home, starting a new job, retirement, a significant birthday, or simply moving into a new chapter of life.

Big or small, ceremonies gives us a chance to pause, bring the people who matter together and acknowledge the moment.

I’m pleased to share that I am now a Certified Grief Coach. 🤍

This feels like a natural next step for me, building on my work as a Certified Grief Educator and deepening my understanding of how we can live alongside grief.

Grief coaching isn’t about fixing grief or trying to move someone on from it. It’s about meeting people where they are, listening, asking thoughtful questions and supporting them as they find their own way forward.

My training, developed by grief expert David Kessler and coach Nancy Levin, has given me some valuable new skills and ways of working, while reinforcing something I already believe strongly: grief is deeply individual, and there is no single right way through it.

I’m grateful to have completed the certification and look forward to bringing what I’ve learned into the support I offer others.

Before families begin to heal, there is the important work of saying goodbye.

As we spend time reflecting, I'm reminded that every life deserves to be honoured in a way that feels true to the person who lived it. There is no single right way to farewell someone. The most meaningful ceremonies are those that tell a story, celebrate a life and bring people together in love and remembrance.

It is a privilege to walk alongside families during such a tender time, listening, guiding and creating a ceremony that reflects the unique person at its heart.

There’s something very special about a DIY wedding.

I love officiating these ceremonies because they’re often relaxed, deeply personal and full of heart. They reflect the couple in every detail, from the handmade touches to the people who help bring it all together.

Family and friends roll up their sleeves to build arches, arrange flowers, bake cakes, hang fairy lights or simply lend a hand wherever it’s needed. The preparation becomes part of the celebration itself, with laughter, teamwork and shared moments creating memories long before the ceremony begins.

When everyone has played a part, there’s a beautiful sense of connection on the day. It’s not just about witnessing a wedding. It’s about being part of creating it.

These are the ceremonies that remind me how meaningful simple things can be. They are always a joy to be part of.

Who knew Leonardo da Vinci was one of history's earliest wedding planners?

While solving a recent Listener crossword, I discovered that in 1489 da Vinci was appointed Master of Feasts and Banquets for the Sforza court in Milan. Alongside painting and inventing, he was creating magnificent celebrations, including weddings.

It seems bringing people together to celebrate love has always been both an art and a privilege.

I'm just grateful that, these days, being a celebrant doesn't require painting the Last Supper as part of the package!

Hello, Spring. 🌸

There is something special about this time of year. The days grow a little longer, blossoms begin to appear, and the Central Plateau comes alive with fresh colour and new energy.

For me, it's also the gentle beginning of wedding season. A time when couples gather with the people they love to celebrate new chapters, make lifelong promises and create memories that will stay with them forever.

If you're planning a spring wedding, I hope these next few months are filled with excitement, anticipation and plenty of joyful moments along the way.

Today is Daffodil Day, a reminder of the strength, courage and hope shown by so many New Zealanders affected by cancer.

In my work, I've seen how precious time with loved ones is, and how important it is to celebrate the people who shape our lives. Today is a chance to support those still on that journey, remember those we've lost, and stand alongside the families who continue to face each day with remarkable resilience 💛

Did you know registry weddings aren't held at your local courthouse or registry office?

Instead, they're held at an approved location and conducted by a specially appointed registry celebrant authorised by Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM). I'm one of those celebrants.

A registry wedding is a simple legal marriage, but there are still important legal requirements and guidelines to follow.
