One of the things I've found interesting over the years is watching how some products follow a business owner through different stages of their career.

One client has used branded drink bottles repeatedly over the last four years.

At first, it was for a landscaping business.

Later, it was linked to school sports teams.

More recently, it has been connected to real estate.

Same product.

Different purpose.

It got me thinking that sometimes people aren't really buying a product at all.

They're buying visibility.
They're supporting a community.
They're strengthening a relationship.

The bottle just happens to be the thing carrying the message.

Geoff’s “I’d Actually Use This” Pick

If you do events, expos, or weekend stalls, a tidy table makes a bigger difference than most people expect.

This week’s pick: the Large Stretched Tablecloth. Smooth fitted finish, stays in place all day, and gives you full-surface branding so you look properly set up.

Worth noting: it’s made to order with a listed lead time of 14 working days, so it’s one to plan ahead for.

We’ll mock it up first so you can approve the design before it goes to print. Need help getting artwork ready? We can help.

Question: expo table or market trestle, what are you using?

Reply with your event date + table size, and tell me if your artwork is ready or needs a hand.

I was at a networking meeting recently, showing a range of promotional products.

The item that generated the most interest wasn't one of the premium products.

It was one of the cheapest.

An epoxy keyring.

Not because it was cheap.

Because the person looking at it didn't like the heavier metal alternatives they'd seen before.

It solved a problem.

That's something I've noticed repeatedly over the years.

People don't always buy the most expensive option.

They don't always buy the cheapest either.

They usually buy the option that makes the most sense for them.

Geoff’s “I’d Actually Use This” Pick

It might be winter soon, but year-end gifting in NZ is a summer game.
Ordering in winter is how you make sure you actually get what you want, in time.

This week’s pick: the Keepsake Beach Tote Bag. A generous 30L tote with a soft cotton feel, durable blend fabric, and a gusseted base so it holds shape. It comes with a Keepsake branded hangtag, so it feels gift-ready.

Question: would you use this for clients, staff, or an event?

Reply with what it’s for and roughly how many you need.

People often think strategy has to be complicated.

Most of the time, it isn’t.

Sometimes it just looks like choosing something useful for the right people, at the right time.

Not flashy. Not overthought.

Just a smarter decision at the start.

That’s often where better results come from.

Geoff’s “I’d Actually Use This” Pick

A cap is one of those items that gets used when it’s comfortable and looks tidy.

This week’s pick: the Essence Organic Cap, a structured 6-panel cap made from certified organic cotton. It’s part of the Impact Aware collection because it uses natural materials.

Great for work crews, event teams, clubs, and businesses that want their merch choices to reflect their values.

Question: team cap, event cap, or giveaway?

Reply with what it’s for and roughly how many you need.

A lot of promo merch gets judged too early.

People see items being taken and assume it worked.

But being handed out and being remembered are two very different things.

The real value usually shows up later.

Is it still being used?
Do they still see your brand?
Did it leave a better impression than a quick giveaway?

That’s where the real difference often sits.

Geoff’s “I’d Actually Use This” Pick

If you call it a chopping board, people think “promo”.
If you gift it properly, it becomes a bench-top staple.

This week’s pick: the Keepsake Chopping Board. Natural acacia wood, a chevron pattern (so each one looks a bit unique), and it comes gift boxed.

Great for: settlement gifts, client thank-yous, build handovers, staff milestones.

Question: serving board or chopping board, which would you use it for?

Reply with quantity + who it’s for and I’ll shortlist options.

It’s natural to look at price first.

Most businesses do.

But the cheapest option can become the expensive one later if it gets ignored, breaks quickly, or needs replacing sooner than expected.

Sometimes spending less upfront doesn’t save anything at all.

That’s where a bit more thought can make a real difference.
