Another nice improvement in WordPress 7.1 👌

You can now style hover, focus, and active states for buttons and other interactive blocks directly within the editor.

For example, you can change a button’s background colour when someone hovers over it and preview the effect while you’re editing.

Previously, we’d generally handle this sort of thing with custom CSS. It’s good to see more of these design controls becoming part of WordPress itself.

Uploading those enormous photos straight from your phone? WordPress is getting better at dealing with them đŸ“·

WordPress 7.1 moves more image processing into your web browser, including resizing, compression, and creating thumbnails.

That means less work for the web server and more reliable uploads, particularly with large images.

There’s also improved support for newer image formats, including HEIC images from iPhones.

Notes can now be added to a specific piece of text rather than an entire block, with support for formatting, links, emoji, and . Mention a teammate and WordPress can even email them a link straight back to the post.

If several people are involved in reviewing website content, it means less feedback flying backwards and forwards via email 👍
