Exciting news for Tauranga as two of our region’s key industries continue to grow, bringing real benefits to our community.

The Port of Tauranga, the largest port in New Zealand, has reported a 16% lift in half-year profit. Growth like this helps support stable local jobs, strengthens our regional economy, and keeps Tauranga connected to global trade.

We’re also seeing positive momentum from Zespri, who has launched its new 2035 strategy after exceeding its global sales revenue target and selling 220.9 million trays of kiwifruit! Continued growth in the kiwifruit industry means more opportunities for growers, workers, and businesses across the Bay of Plenty.

Success stories like these demonstrate how a strong local economy benefits the wider community. When our key industries grow, it supports jobs, local investment, and the long-term prosperity of our region.

Another positive step for our growing city. The new artificial football turf at Links Avenue Reserve opened last weekend and is a real win for our region. As the first turf in the Bay of Plenty, it provides reliable, all weather access for local clubs and development programmes which supports stronger participation and long term growth.

The open day held over the weekend brought plenty of locals together to check out the new facility and see what it means for our football community. The first friendly match on the turf has already been played with local team FCTM taking the win, a fantastic start to a new exciting space for our community.

This upgrade highlights the value of investing in community spaces that keep people active, create opportunities for young players and strengthen the wider sporting network. It’s important to also note the flow on benefits for nearby businesses and community groups who thrive when quality facilities attract regular use.

It is great to see developments like this lifting the standard of local infrastructure and contributing to Bay of Plenty’s growth in a way that supports both community wellbeing and business activity.

Tauranga’s growth story continues to shine.

Port of Tauranga has recently announced that they've delivered another strong financial performance, with trade volumes increasing to 25.3 million tonnes and container numbers rising to 1.2 million TEUs. Exports are driving much of this success, with kiwifruit up nearly 31%, alongside growth in dairy and meat.

These results highlight Tauranga’s vital role in powering New Zealand’s economy and strengthening its position as the country’s leading gateway for international trade. 🚢

The Bay of Plenty is once again in the spotlight as the Zespri AIMS Games return in 2025. More than 430 schools and 14,021 athletes will descend on Tauranga Moana, making it Australasia’s largest junior sporting event.

The tournament isn’t just about sport - it’s about showcasing our region to the rest of New Zealand and to international visitors. Last year alone, the Games boosted the local economy by more than $8 million.

From hotels and motels to cafés, restaurants, and food suppliers, our hospitality sector reaps the rewards of this iconic event while helping put the Bay firmly on the map.
