A statement, for the record.

Our family was the victim of a home invasion and assault in our own home. The four people responsible are members of the Clutha Valley Rugby Club.

Since the incident, no one from the club has contacted our family. No apology. No acknowledgement. No statement. Nothing.

We were part of this community. We ran a business in the area. We contributed. We are now selling our properties and leaving.

A rugby club is meant to be a sporting organisation. When four of its members assault a family in their own home and the response from the rest is silence and protection of their own, it stops being a club and starts behaving like a gang.

I am posting this because the people in the area deserve to know how this has been handled, and because our family will not pretend otherwise to protect anyone's reputation. The silence has made the choice for us.

We want to be transparent with our community.

Due to a violent incident involving members of the Clutha Valley Rugby Club that has personally impacted our family, we have been forced to reconsider our involvement in this weekend's upcoming event — through no fault of ours or the event organisers.

As a business, we hold a clear position: we do not support violence of any kind, and we feel it would be wrong to participate without acknowledging what has occurred.
