Congratulations Adrienne!

We're so thrilled that Adrienne Jansen has been recognised for her mahi in writing and publishing with an ONZM in the King's Birthday Honours.

Adrienne has been a long-time supporter of Whitireia Publishing. She visits each year to lead discussions about the process of editing creative work. Over the years, our ākonga have been lucky enough to collaborate with Adrienne on many projects, including some with Landing Press, and we're so thankful for her generosity and tireless advocacy.

Ngā mihi maioha and congratulations, Adrienne!

Congratulations to Philippa Werry on winning the Tom Fitzgibbon Award for a fiction manuscript for children. We've been the lucky recipients of her turning her wonderful writing talents to poetry (see her poem 'A writer's lineage' in Now and then.)

On Race Relations Day, 21 March 2019, we launched More of Us, poems by migrants and refugees. It was a week after the mosque shootings in Christchurch. The launch was attended by 200 people, in a locked-down National Library. It was the most poignant launch that we have ever had, celebrating a book that felt like it portrayed who we wanted to be, and thought we were, but weren't. We sold out of the book that night.

On Race Relations Day, we remember those tragic times, and our continuing commitment to publish anthologies of poetry that celebrate the diversity of Aotearoa New Zealand.
