Do you vote each year in the Bird of the Year competition run by Forest & Bird?

We are very proud to announce that we are the new website development partners to the project and were behind some of the big improvements in the build up to this year's competition.

Huge thanks to the fine team at Forest & Bird for such a fun and stimulating collaboration, and deep appreciation to our partners at Dragonfly Data Science who were essential in implementing the new voting systems with us.

Please give our blog about the project a read. And don't forget to make your vote count!

In 2025 Xequals became the web development partner to one of New Zealand's most popular annual competitions; The Bird of the Year Competition ran by Forest & Bird.

Last week’s event was a chance to launch next year’s POWER UP! Game Jam and celebrate the huge success of 2024 – thank you to everyone who came along, shared ideas, and brought the energy!

A massive shoutout to our supporters at the US Embassy and the New Zealand Game Developers Association – your backing has helped us build something truly special.

Together, we’re aiming to make POWER UP! the first global game jam for women – and we’re just getting started. 🌍 ✨

If you're a company, community group, or funder interested in supporting more women and underrepresented genders in games, we’d love to talk. Let's build something big.

It was our absolute pleasure to support this year's Creative Bureaucracy Festival Hub as the venue sponsor. Having so many amazing, energetic and motivated public servants in our space was a joy.

Much like them, we are also passionate about achieving a highly functional public service and giving kiwi citizens the benefit of our all our local talent. We hope to be involved in next years event!

We can't believe that this is now the 5th year running for the Wellington Avocado Toast Awards!

To refresh: the WATAs are Wellington's Newest Most Serious Silly Fake Food Award that is actually a real food award. It's not just a celebration of all things avocado on toast; but also a forum for inter-generational discussions about the economy, reflections on our ability / inabilities to access affordable housing, and have a good laugh at ourselves alng the way.

We are currently doing an active drive for both sponsors and participants. If you own a business that can offer can collaborate on this super unique and fun annual event for Wellington, please get in touch!
