The Make Waste History charity provides systems for renting high quality reusable cups and bowls to customers, in an effort to reduce waste. We use A LOT of takeaway containers in New Zealand, for our daily takeout and coffee habit. Not only do these end up as litter, those takeout coffee cups leech toxic microplastics into your body every time you drink as well.

As part of the promotional campaign, we illustrated some "stickers" for the product and also for the dreaded disposable cup.

Had a great time designing this hand-drawn logo for The Slush Truck. Something about the process of hand-to-paper adds a distinct feeling of authenticity, life and energy. This feeling cannot be translated through a purely digital logo design process.

Once the logo has been sketched and refined on paper, only then is a logo such as this digitised and translated into a crisp vector file. This way that feeling of human involvement can be felt through every line of the final piece.

A slushy is fun and vibrant, and so this logo needed to convey those same feelings instantaneously. The sploshes and swirling text do just that. As refreshing as a cool drink on a summers day!

We love to support causes – even if it’s one we wouldn’t normally consider. You would think that getting rid of our refinery in an age of emissions makes sense, right? You would. But the problems began straight away when they shut this place down.

We were approached with a very specific brief to follow. I chose a hopeful and passionate palette of baby blue, white and blood red. The slight mis-registration gives it a screened and hand-made feel. This was important to capture the grass-roots vibe of activism. Angry signs are never perfect! They only serve to communicate an idea as clearly as possible.

Design that makes a difference. That sounds like the dream. A dream we are happy to develop.
