🚐✨ Behind the Designs: Honoa Hapori Vans for Whakatāne District Council
We’re excited to share a closer look at the visual direction, elements, and mockups that brought the Honoa Hapori – Community Connections and Outreach Project to life.
These vans were designed with two unique versions:
🌊 Honoa Hapori ki Tai – connecting with northern communities including Ōhope, Tāneatua, Waimana, and Whakatāne
🌿 Honoa Hapori ki Uta – supporting southern communities like Murupara, Te Urewera, and Galatea
The overall look reflects the Whakatāne taiao – land, sea, and sky – with flowing forms and subtle distinctions between the two vans. We wanted each design to feel vibrant, positive, and approachable, especially for tamariki and whānau in the community.
We also had the privilege of incorporating a kōwhaiwhai pattern by local artist Carly Rangiaho (Tūhoe). Her beautiful artwork represents Papatuanuku and Ranginui, with koru and koiri symbolising life, reflection, and renewal.
Big shoutout to Glen and the team at Bella Designs for the install – they brought the final pieces to life beautifully.

Ngā mihi to Whakatāne District Council for trusting us with this kaupapa.
