Big news for hosts and property managers in Panama — especially here in Bocas del Toro. 🌴

Bill 301 proposes the first official framework to regulate short-term rentals in the country (Airbnb, VRBO, vacation rentals, over-the-sea homes, eco-lodges, and more).

Article 1 would recognize STRs as a formal tourism activity, managed under the Tourism Authority, with free digital registration, official statistics, and clearer rules for everyone.

For Bocas — one of Panama’s most active STR destinations — this could mean:
✔️ More legal clarity
✔️ Equal rules across hotels + Airbnbs
✔️ A simpler path for hosts who want to operate transparently
✔️ Better data to understand how STRs impact our islands and communities

Airbnb just rolled out its latest Superhost announcements, and like every year, many of us here in Bocas del Toro got the "You earned a Superhost bonus!" email 🎉

👉 On Isla Colón, there are around 310 listings, and only about 84 are managed by Superhosts — that’s less than 30%.
👉 Meanwhile, there are about 108 listings marked as “Guest Favorite.”
So what’s the difference — and which one should you aim for?

✨ Superhost is a host-level recognition. It’s given quarterly based on consistent excellence:
• 4.8+ average rating
• Low cancellation rate
• Fast response times
• Proven hosting experience (at least 10 completed stays)

🏅 Guest Favorite, on the other hand, is listing-specific. It highlights individual properties that guests love most. These listings consistently get top marks for cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, and accuracy — often averaging 4.9+ ⭐️

💡 Why this matters:
Travelers can filter by “Guest Favorite” when searching on Airbnb — but there’s no filter for Superhosts. That means your listing gets extra visibility if it earns that badge.

🌐✨ Want your hotel in Bocas del Toro to actually show up on Google?

Here are 3 simple SEO steps every hotel website should do (no tech degree required!):

1️⃣ Fix your homepage title
👉 Don’t let it just say “Home.” Add your hotel name + location (ex: Hotel Sunset View | Bocas del Toro, Panama). This helps you rank at least for your own brand name.

2️⃣ Use an SEO plugin
👉 If your site is on WordPress, install Rank Math. It lets you add custom titles & descriptions for each page and creates a sitemap.

3️⃣ Submit your sitemap to Google
👉 Most SEO plugins generate one (ex: yourhotel.com/sitemap.xml). Add it to Google Search Console so Google knows your site exists.

💡 Why does this matter? Travelers often find hotels on OTAs like Booking or Expedia, then search the hotel name hoping to book direct (usually cheaper 💸). If your site isn’t optimized, Google may not even show it! By adding your hotel’s name + location and submitting your site to Google, you’re making sure your direct booking site can appear.

The design phase was executed using Adobe XD, ensuring a user-friendly interface, delivered by a navigable prototype for the client's review and feedback.

The website was built on the WordPress platform, leveraging the powerful features of Elementor Pro and Crocoblocks to provide seamless customization and enhanced functionality.

To optimize search engine visibility, we have implemented custom metadata for all pages, utilizing keywords harvested and analyzed with SEO PowerSuite.

Furthermore, the website is integrated with a booking module, allowing visitors to easily make reservations. It is fully responsive, adapting effortlessly to different devices such as desktops, mobiles, tablets, and iPads, ensuring a consistent and enjoyable experience for all users.
