It was in May, 2025, earlier this year when we wanted to do something different with the usual Bilum Wear on the Runway. Working on ideas and exploring what the possibilities are. So we gathered a couple of women from Finschafen through Amuni Foundation and started working on Cowries.

The women from Finschafen traveled from Finschafen into Lae and up to Goroka, spent a week with me and we started creating different outfits to see what will work out.

In September, during the 16th Moni Plus Goroka Bilum Festival, we officially launched the outfits.

November, got us here in Sydney for the Fiji Fashion Week. Thankyou Amuni Foundation, this is where your cowrie sits on the International Runway.

PC: LAUNCHING OF ALEKANO ZAGUSAVE VOICE INCORPORATED ASSOCIATION: A NEW DAWN FOR 39 VILLAGES

The Launching of AZV Inc took place on August 21st 2025 In the lush valley of Goroka, where a change was brewing. In the morning, there was a misty fog then the sun rose over the 39 villages of Alekano, casting golden light on the vibrant greens of the landscape from the East to the West. The air was thick with the scent of fresh earth and blooming flowers of coffee and other flowers, echoing the anticipation of a new beginning. The villagers, weary from years of struggle as spectators in their own land, gathered in the heart of their communities – the National Park to launch the Alekano Zagusave Voice Incorporated Association—a beacon of hope aimed at reclaiming their identity and rights.

The day blistered with binnacles of bird of paradise feathers transent with traditional Alekano songs and dances echoed with aisi – ganini by beautiful girls and handsome boys. These danceers accompanied by mothers, fathers, grandparents, uncles and aunties of each villages. They sang songs like never before with their hearts and joy; laughter and smiles as evident in the pictures.
