Where to find us?
Located inside the National Cancer Treatment Center at Angau Hospital.
Who is eligible?
Women aged 30 and above. This service is specifically for women living within Lae. No referral letter needed! Just bring your hospital book.
What is VIA Screening?
VIA stands for Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid. It is a simple, effective way to find changes in the cervix before they turn into cancer.
How is it done?
A trained nurse applies a small amount of diluted vinegar (acetic acid) to the cervix. They then look for any areas that turn white, which may indicate abnormal cells.
Is it painful?
It is a quick, non-surgical procedure that may cause minor discomfort but is generally painless.
When do I get results?
One of the best things about VIA is that it provides instant results. You will know the outcome before you leave the clinic!
Why is it important?
Cervical cancer often has no symptoms in the early stages. By getting screened, we can catch problems early when they are much easier to treat.

MOROBE health authority (MoHA) chief executive officer Dr Kipas Binga says the process of separating Angau Memorial Hospital from MoHA is complicated and will take time.

Binga was responding to Lae MP John Rosso’s announcement that Cabinet has approved Angau to become a standalone facility, with plans for a new Level 4 hospital for Lae city and upgrades to urban clinics.

What is breast cancer?
Breast cancer is when cells in the breast grow out of control. It can affect anyone with breast tissue.

How to Lower Your Risk:
▫️Live Healthy: Stay active, eat good food, and limit alcohol.
▫️Be Aware: Know your body and check yourself regularly!

What to Look For (Early Signs):
▫️ A new lump or thickness in your breast or armpit.
▫️ Changes to the breast shape or size.
▫️ Any ni**le discharge or the ni**le pulling inward.
▫️ Changes to the skin (like dimpling, redness, or peeling).

The first and most important step is the Breast Self-Exam (BSE) every month.

▫️ LAE INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL / Other Clinics: Contact private hospitals or major clinics in Lae, such as the Lae International Hospital or Marie Stopes PNG, to inquire about their Clinical Breast Exam (CBE) and diagnostic services.
