A SCRIBE’S OATH

I am a scribe, called forth and selected
To be a catalyst of change, a reflection of life.
As a member of the Scribblers’ Society; I stay devoted
To the cause of writing in accord and in strife.
And as a subject to the society of scribes,
I solemnly swear that all scribbles I’ll respect.
I’ll jot down all that I can describe
And stitch up all the words I can collect
In the hopes that one day, I can weave a beautiful web
Of the views I had and things I’ve left unspoken;
Salvage what I can before my thoughts begin to ebb
Away, long gone like promises broken.
I swear to use my hands as an instrument
That syncs with my mind, but more importantly, with my heart.
I swear to write for others as well as for my betterment,
Write as often and as much as I can for my part.
In my every scribble, I’ll pour out my all
Because I believe that scribbling requires sincerity
And because I was chosen for the call,
I’ll honor these vows with utmost severity.
