Nick Fury References The Events Of Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Another reference to the wider MCU is found in Secret Invasion episode 2's conversation between Rhodes and Fury. As Fury is imploring Rhodes helps him due to their shared struggle to rise through the ranks of power as black men in America, he references the "mediocre Alexander Pierce's who run this world". This is an Easter egg to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and how Alexander Pierce essentially controlled the world through acting as the leader of SHIELD while secretly working for HYDRA.

Secret Invasion Episode 2 Has An Easter Egg To A Marvel Comics Skrull

In the same scene in which Talos and Fury are speaking on a Russian train, Talos mentions a being named Emperor Drogge who has a colony somewhere in the MCU. This is a reference to the comic character Dro'ge, a Skrull whose intellect was above most others. In the comics, Dro'ge created a new class of Super-Skrull that led to the comics' version of Secret Invasion. While it is unclear if the MCU's Drogge will have a role to play, the reference to the comic character links to Rosa Dalton in Secret Invasion episode 2 and her work to improve the Skrulls.

Secret Invasion's Episode 2 Skrull Reveal Links To Marvel Comics

During Secret Invasion episode 2, it is revealed that there are around one million Skrulls on Earth. This is an Easter egg to the Marvel Comics storyline of the same name, which was much bigger in scope than the series was at first glance. Before Secret Invasion episode 2, many thought the show would be a smaller scale invasion than the comics, though this reveal references the comics by revealing just how many Skrulls could be hidden on Earth that could align with Gravik.

Secret Invasion Episode 2 References What Happened After Captain Marvel

One of the biggest mysteries after Secret Invasion episode 1 is why the Skrulls are invading Earth after Captain Marvel promised to find them a new home. While the reveal of the Skrulls being persecuted no matter where they went is not an Easter egg in itself, the scene is a reference to both Captain Marvel and Secret Invasion episode 1. The scene adds context to Carol's ending in Captain Marvel and the conversations between Fury and Talos in Secret Invasion's premiere episode, making it an Easter egg to both prior MCU products.

Secret Invasion Episode 2 References Nick Fury's Captain Marvel Appearance

During the opening scenes set in 1997, Samuel L. Jackson has once again been de-aged in the MCU. This references his appearance from Captain Marvel, with Fury looking almost identical to how he did at the end of that movie: a much younger version fit with an eyepatch for his fresh scar. The scene showcases Fury's first meeting with Gravik with both much younger than they were shown in Secret Invasion episode 1.
