One of the most common questions I keep seeing in VA Facebook:
โ€œ๐‡๐จ๐ฐ ๐๐จ ๐ˆ ๐›๐ž๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž ๐š ๐•๐€?โ€
This question feels like an opportunity to share my thoughts.
With the amount of free information available today, guides, tutorials, group posts, and even the search bar on Google or inside the same group, asking this question without first looking signals something important.
Not a lack of intelligence, but a lack of resourcefulness.
And resourcefulness is not optional in this line of work.
This applies just as much to anyone preparing for work, joining a team, or stepping into a new role.
Being a VA or working in the freelance industry requires figuring things out before someone tells you what to do.
Clients expect that. They rely on it.
If answers always need to be handed over, the work becomes difficult.
The real issue is that โ€œHow do I become a VA?โ€ is not the right starting question.

A better one is:
Here are a few tips to start:
โœ… Identify skills you already use regularly, even from past jobs or daily work
โœ… Learn how those skills help solve a specific problem for someone else
โœ… Read existing posts, guides, and pinned resources before asking questions
โœ… Start small, learn from feedback, and adjust as you go
Everyone begins somewhere.
The difference over time is not talent, but the habit of trying to figure things out before asking for help.

Starting a new career in the freelance industry often begins with the wrong focus.
I came across a post in a Facebook group for VA's where someone asked if it was normal to receive payment only at the end of the month.
I understood where the question was coming from. Many of us came from employment setups where salaries are released every 15th and 30th, so anything different can feel unfamiliar.
I shared a short response. I said that this payment setup is normal, and in my case, it is not a payment for work already done, but an upfront payment for the tasks of the coming month.
What caught my attention were the follow-up questions to my response.

โ“ How do you negotiate that set-up?
โ“ Where do you get direct clients?
โ“ Can you refer me to other clients?
It became obvious how quickly the conversation shifted once I mentioned being paid up front.
It was clear that the focus moved straight to money. That is not wrong. Income is often the reason people enter the freelance industry in the first place.
At the same time, the questions made me pause. They pointed to a desire for speed or ease, rather than curiosity about the work that made those arrangements possible in the first place. I could be wrong, but that was how it landed for me.
This is one of the harder truths about the freelance industry.
Stable income and better terms are usually the result of
โœ… skills built over time,
โœ… clarity about the value you offer,
โœ… and consistency in how you work.
They rarely come first. They are earned along the way.

Three years in a row.
That was one of the quiet surprises I received this holiday season. I was out with my family when a dear friend messaged to say the results were out.
With so many nominees and new faces this year, I honestly did not expect to be on the list again, let alone move up the ranks.
This initiative by Virginia Bautista, creator of Top 100 Filipinos on LinkedIn and my first mentor on personal branding on LinkedIn, has always stood for something deeper. As she aptly said:
Every name on the list was nominated by people who felt inspired by the stories shared, the knowledge offered, and the conversations started.
Those selected were chosen based on the value and impact they bring to their connections, including sharing quality original content, engaging meaningfully, and showing consistency. It is not just about numbers.
๐Ÿ”— For those who want to understand the process better, the full selection criteria can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gCvVMu8r

๐Ÿ‘ Congratulations to my fellow nominees who made it to this yearโ€™s list.

๐Ÿ™ And to everyone who took the time to nominate, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in me and in the work I continue to share. That trust means more than you know.

๐Ÿ”— You can view the full list here: https://lnkd.in/gMzVzwqq
I would also like to acknowledge those who have continued the legacy of Ms. Virginia Bautista. Thank you Bless Baluyot, Leylord Marcelino, and LinkedIn Local Philippines for your efforts, patience, and constant encouragement in keeping this community alive.
Being recognized for three consecutive years is not just a title I place on my profile.
โœ… It is an honor I carry with responsibility.
โœ… It challenges me to level up, do better, and stay intentional with the work I share.
โœ… More than anything, it reminds me to remain someone others can learn from, relate to, and feel encouraged by.
To everyone quietly showing up, sharing what you know, and contributing with care, your work already matters. Recognition or not, that effort has value.
If you have a story to tell, knowledge to share, an advocacy to stand for, or a community you hope to build, LinkedIn can be a meaningful space when used with intention and the right connections.
Grateful. Humbled. And quietly encouraged to keep going.

Ever wondered why your LinkedIn numbers arenโ€™t moving?

Someone I know once asked for help in understanding their LinkedIn numbers.

They were frustrated after checking their KPIs and seeing little to no change.

They said, โ€œBut I already posted twice last week and engaged with those who commented. Why is there no progress?โ€

That question made me realize how many people expect results too soon.

โŒ LinkedIn growth does not happen overnight.
โŒ Posting twice a week will not make a big difference unless it becomes part of a consistent pattern.

From my conversations with LinkedIn experts and from what I have read, the key is not about posting every day.

It is about being consistent enough for your audience and the algorithm to recognize your presence.

Consistency means:
โœ… Showing up regularly, not just once in a while
โœ… Engaging beyond your own posts
โœ… Adding value that sparks interest

Adding value means giving people something useful or meaningful to take away, whether through your posts or your comments.

It could be a personal insight, a relatable story, or a simple perspective that helps others see things differently.

Checking your KPIs every week can help you stay aware, but it does not always show real progress.

Monthly or bi-weekly reviews give a clearer view of growth.

And while nobody fully understands how the LinkedIn algorithm works, one thing is clear.

It rewards genuine and consistent participation.

If your numbers seem stagnant, keep going. Stay consistent, stay visible, and let the results compound over time.

We live in a culture that glorifies productivity.

Rest feels like guilt.

Silence feels like laziness.

And before we know it, exhaustion becomes our new normal.

As a mom and a small business owner, Iโ€™ve learned that mental overload doesnโ€™t happen all at once.

It builds up quietly through small compromises, late nights, and the belief that โ€œjust one more taskโ€ wonโ€™t hurt.

But kindness to your mind means allowing yourself to stop without feeling sorry for it.
โœ… To reset before burnout takes over.
โœ… To choose peace over pressure.

Itโ€™s Monday, and maybe thatโ€™s the reminder we all need: You can still move forward without running yourself to the ground.

I barely slept last night. After dropping my son off at school this morning, I went to a coffee shop to have breakfast and work at the same time.

I ordered two slices of cake and a specialty coffee to push through the morning. Instead of comfort, it left me bloated and uncomfortable.

Maybe youโ€™ve had days like that, too.

The choices we make early in the day ripple through everything else.

Work feels heavier. Focus slips. Patience at home runs thin.

I was reminded that health and productivity are always connected.

We cannot give our best at work or at home when our body is not ready to support us.

Staying healthy comes down to small daily choices: what we eat, how we rest, and how we handle stress.

Those choices decide if our energy fuels us or drags us down.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Iโ€™m curious, whatโ€™s one small choice youโ€™re making today for your health and productivity throughout the week? Share it in the comments. I would love to learn from you.

Recently, I was reminded of this when I had the chance to take on additional work.

On the surface, it looked like a good fit. Extra income always helps, especially when youโ€™re a one-person team and the sole provider for your family.

But as I reviewed the scope, I realized it would have required urgent response times and came with expectations that didnโ€™t align with how I work best.

On top of that, the rate being considered was lower than what I know my services are worth.

For a moment, I thought of adjusting to make it work. But Iโ€™ve learned over time that lowering your value might solve a short-term need, while creating long-term stress.

So I made the hard choice: I said no.

Not because I didnโ€™t need the money. But because I knew the setup would hurt me, my other clients, and eventually, the quality of my work.

Saying no isnโ€™t easy, but sometimes itโ€™s the smartest decision you can make for yourself and your clients.

I didnโ€™t expect to be nominated again for the ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“ ๐“๐จ๐ฉ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ ๐…๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐จ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐…๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ ๐จ๐ง ๐‹๐ข๐ง๐ค๐ž๐๐ˆ๐ง.For those who may not know, t...

For those who may not know, this recognition highlights Filipinos who use LinkedIn to inspire, educate, and share meaningful content. It has been running since 2018 and celebrates professionals making a positive impact in their communities.

When nominations opened, I listed down a few people I admire. One of them was Ruth Yap, someone I first met on LinkedIn who has since become a friend. To my surprise, she also nominated me.

Ruthโ€™s journey has been inspiring. The way she consistently shares her stories reminds me why authenticity matters. Her posts are always real, relatable, and worth reading. Thatโ€™s why I nominated her without hesitation.

If I make the list again this year, it would be an honor. But more than that, Iโ€™m grateful to be part of a community where support and inspiration flow both ways.

Thank you, Ruth, for the nomination and for being a reminder of what genuine connection looks like.
