IF IT SCARES YOU THE MOST, IT MAY BE GOOD FOR YOU
It was during the pandemic where various edtech emerged. I am assigned to attend online webinars and eventually will rollout to my colleagues at school after. One requirement of this training is for the participants to have a demonstration teaching incorporating the edtech learned.
There will be 8 demonstrators per subject. I am not planning to volunteer because I know that there are better and seasoned teachers in our department. I am personally scared of demo teaching and worse being observed by my fellow professionals. Intimidation is one factor why I am too scared to show up.
Here is my realization why I was scared in the first place:
1. Fear to commit mistakes. I personally deal with mistakes seriously where I become so hard with myself.
2. Fear of being criticized. Since there seasoned and more experienced than I am, I expect that will be looking at my flaws more.
3. Fear to not be valued. Since I am new, I doubted if I can give lessons to my colleagues.
But while waiting for someone to volunteer on our department, I had mixed emotions, but to cut the story I volunteered to demo teach the following day. I had a few mishaps but I am happy that my "students" were participative. Also I learned a lot by the constructive criticism. 😊
Looking back from that first experience, it boosted my confidence and self-belief. Actually after that, I had done three demo teachings up to date. 🏆 With that, I can say I won. 😊
What scares you the most? Would you want to share it with me? If yes, feel free to PM me. 💌
