It's no surprise that many small business owners are hesitant to begin using social media marketing. There just seems to be so much to take in: so many networks to join, blog entries to write, podcasts and films to record, and so on. And for those brave social media explorers who are just getting started, there are even more questions, such as knowing what has to be done and why they're doing it.
Connect - Using social media allows you to connect with far more interesting and influential individuals than if you did not use it. In a time when the majority of phone calls end up in voicemail, using social media to make that initial contact can be more effective.
Communicate — It's crucial to note that Social Media marketing replaces the one-way message of the traditional, static, brochure-type website by allowing you to communicate with your clients and prospects in a two-way and even multi-way fashion. Instead of guessing, you can find out exactly what they want.
Consistent - You wouldn't expect to get good results by doing something only once or twice with traditional marketing operations, would you? That would be the equivalent of attending one networking event or mailing one letter and then waiting for the phone to ring. Instead, you'd create a campaign of activities that would last a few months or longer. You'd go to the networking groups on a regular basis and send out a series of mailings, as well as follow up on them.
