VIVA NUESTRO PADRE JESUS NAZARENO!
Today, we celebrate the feast day of the miraculous image of the Black Nazarene venerated at the Parish of St. John the Baptist in Quiapo, Manila. How and when the devotion started was still unknown. However, it is believed that the original image was brought by the Augustinian Recollects in 1606.
The image venerated in Quiapo is a vicario or replica given by the Recollects. This image survived the bombing of Manila during WW2, while the original was destroyed together with the entire church of San Nicolas de Tolentino in Intramuros, where it is enshrined.
One of the anticipated practices during the festivities is the Traslacion, where thousands of devotees flock to participate. The annual Traslacion is a historical re-enactment of the 1787 transfer of the image from Intramuros to Quiapo.
In Naga City, Bikol, the same devotion to Amang Nazareno as Bikolanos would call the image was started in 1975 by Flavio Redondo. For the past years, the devotion grew and is still growing. The Hijos de Nazareno Bicol Unit is based in Barangay Lerma in Naga City.
In solidarity with today's festivities, we present this estampita design as a token of reverence to Amang Nazareno, the Hijos de Nazareno, and all the devotees.
Viva Amang Nazareno!
