It's the client buying your time at a discount.
Here’s what I’d do instead.

First, specialize in what you do best and solve a specific problem.

But... instead of charging for your time (a retainer)

Choose the subscription model; it’s value-based pricing 2.0.

On retainer, a client sees things as a time-based equation:

Time Worked vs. Results

More time spent = you're on the wrong side of the equation.
Less time spent = the client thinks they're paying you too much.

Eventually, they’ll look for someone cheaper because they’re just focusing on the unit per hour.

But the subscription model changes everything.
Ron Baker calls it "the holy grail."

Think about it: when you subscribe to Netflix or Disney, you’re not sitting there thinking… I need to watch so many pieces of content so I don’t get ripped off.

What you’re really thinking is, does the value exceed the amount of money I pay?

If it does, you’re happy.
And that’s how subscription clients feel, too.

It was during Pro Call #236 that I walked a member through going from a less-than-desirable retainer to subscription pricing.
