TikTok was never going to be a YouTube competitor.
Well, this is what people would say back in 2019.
But it has come a long way since it was just a dancing app that used cute AI filters and silly dance trends to catapult its user base of teens with no lives.
If I were to convince my bosses back then that Tiktok would be a part of the race of social media giants in 2022, they would have laughed at me.
It has a reputation for having lots of cringe-worthy videos.
But since then, Tiktok has evolved into a massive super app perfect for community building, brand awareness, and commerce.
However, we need to understand that YouTube and TikTok are both unique social media platforms.
They serve different purposes.
Youtube benefits in the long run while TikTok is made for quick entertainment.
TikTok is an attention-grabbing platform that caters to the whims of its users' desiresโit's essentially an endless supply of "likes" and "hits."
YouTube, on the other hand, is a search engine: users can find videos based on keywords or topics they're interested in.
While TikTok is great at drawing viewers in with its catchy content, Youtube's search function allows users to find exactly what they're looking for without being bombarded with too much noise.
This isn't to say that TikTok will be a fad and die out in the near future.
In fact, it's quite the opposite: TikTok has gained over 8 million downloads since being launched in September 2016.
It's here to stay, especially with such high numbers of its user base recruiting more users. It is worth charting the growth of this platform to see what trends it displays if it continues going strong.
YouTube, on the other hand, is just doing well as ever.
YouTube has been around since 2005 and has over 1 billion active monthly users making videos and sharing content with their audience with their platforms' main sources of advertising revenue being predominantly Google AdSense and YouTube Red subscriptions.
Do you agree?
