Back in 2014, I was enjoying a 6-digit salary plus perks as an office manager/recruiter. Career-wise, I couldnโ€™t ask for more. Little did I know that the company I was working

for would soon succumb to the recession. In 2016, I got laid off, then si husband na lay off din. Trying to make ends meet, I went back to online selling and sold my familyโ€™s preloved clothes and shoes. And since Iโ€™ve done hosting during college, I also accepted gigs to bring in cash. At the same time, I sold frozen products, Bangkok dresses, and my own brand of sandals. You see, I didn't mind doing that because I have always loved selling ever since I was a young kid. Like a little entrepreneur, I would sell durian candies, and ice buko, and run a payphone in grade school. I would offer my services too, like doing the reports and projects of my classmates in exchange for a fee.

Imagine I am used to earning 6 digits already, so, I had to look for other ways to feed my family. One day, a high school friend ordered a sandal and a Bangkok blouse from me. As we caught up with each other, she mentioned that she was currently working for a client and told me about a certain freelancing platform. I immediately got interested. Remote work isnโ€™t as easy as it looks.

It looks simple from the outside.

Flexible hours.
Work from home.
You control your time.

And honestlyโ€ฆ

Iโ€™m grateful for it.

As a mom of 4 girls, that kind of flexibility matters.

But itโ€™s not easy.

No one reminds you what to do.
No one checks if youโ€™re on track.
No one manages your time.

Itโ€™s all on you.

You figure things out.
You stay on top of everything.
You make sure the work gets done.

Even on days when youโ€™re tired.
Even when your attention is split.

And at the same timeโ€ฆ

youโ€™re still a mom.

Some people think itโ€™s just
log in, do a few tasks, then log out.

Itโ€™s not.

It takes discipline.
It takes responsibility.
It takes showing up, even when no one is watching.

The flexibility is real.

But so is the weight that comes with it.

And the truth isโ€ฆ

the ones who take this seriously?

Theyโ€™re the ones who make it work.

They grow.
They earn.
They stay.

Not because itโ€™s easy,

but because they treat it like it matters.

Momshโ€ฆ

are you treating remote work like a real opportunityโ€ฆ
or just something youโ€™re trying out? ๐Ÿ‘€

24/04/2026

MomsAtWork didnโ€™t start in perfect conditions.

It started in the middle of real life.

Kids in the background.
Deadlines to meet.
Work and client calls anywhere we could take them.
Tandem breastfeeding.
Dreams we didnโ€™t want to give up.

If youโ€™re here, you probably know exactly what that feels like.

We juggle.
We adjust.
We figure things out as we go.

Different places. Different schedules. Same goal.... make it work.

Thatโ€™s why we appreciate brands that actually help,
ones that make things a little easier, not harder.

Like Ride IT Davao ๐Ÿ’š

Because when youโ€™re constantly on the move,
anything that helps you get around faster,
run errands easier,
and stay on top of everything...

that matters.

MomsAtWork was never about having it all figured out.

Itโ€™s about showing up anyway.
Doing what you can.
Building something, wherever you are.

Together.

If youโ€™re figuring things out one day at a time....
youโ€™re in the right place, momsh ๐Ÿค

A lot of people say,
โ€œAng hirap maghanap ng client.โ€

But when you look closerโ€ฆ

itโ€™s not always the market.

Itโ€™s the consistency.

Yung okay ka for 3 daysโ€ฆ
tapos nawawala ka for 2 weeks.

Yung motivated ka todayโ€ฆ
pero pag walang reply, na discourage ka na...

Yung ang dami mong planoโ€ฆ
pero hindi tuloy-tuloy.

And I get it.

Nakakapagod.
Nakaka-discourage.
Nakakapanghina naman talaga.

But freelancing doesnโ€™t reward intensity.

It rewards consistency.

Hindi naman kelangan perfect.
Hindi naman kelangan araw-araw magaling.

Pero kailangan tuloy-tuloy.

Because the ones who make it?

Hindi sila yung pinakamagaling.

Sila yung hindi tumigil. Hindi sumuko. Laging gustong mag improve.

Even when it was quiet.
Even when no one replied.
Even when no one is watching.

They just kept going.

So before you say,
โ€œwala talagang clientsโ€ฆโ€

Ask yourself,

consistent ka ba talaga?

Because that one thingโ€ฆ

changes everything.

Momsh,

are you really struggling with clientsโ€ฆ
or nahihirapan ka lang maging consistent? ๐Ÿ‘€

Freelancing Truth #13 from someone who has been on both sides, momsh

Have you noticed this?

Parang same type of clientsโ€ฆ
paulit-ulit.

๐Ÿ‘‰ low-paying
๐Ÿ‘‰ demanding
๐Ÿ‘‰ micromanaging

Nakaka-drain, no?

Yung tipong bantay sarado ka
or kailangan mo i-update every small thing.

Tapos mapapaisip ka,

โ€œBakit ganito lagi?โ€
โ€œSa akin lang ba?โ€

Can I share something honestly?

Minsanโ€ฆ

itโ€™s not just the clients.

Itโ€™s how weโ€™re showing up.

If everything feels like:

โ€œokay langโ€
โ€œsige langโ€
โ€œkaya paโ€

Clients read that as:

๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œPwede pa dagdaganโ€
๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œKailangan bantayanโ€
๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œFlexible naman siyaโ€

Not because theyโ€™re bad.

But because, yun yung nakikita nila base sa pinapakita mo.

From the hiring side,

we respond to whatโ€™s in front of us.

If you donโ€™t set structureโ€ฆ

clients will create their own.

And sometimes,

๐Ÿ‘‰ that looks like micromanaging.

So if you want different clientsโ€ฆ

you have to show up differently.

Mas clear ka sa expectations.
Mas firm ka sa boundaries.
Mas intentional ka sa communication.

Hindi kailangan strict. Pero dapat consistent.

Because the right clients?

They donโ€™t need to control you.

They trust you.

And that starts with how you present yourself.

Ikaw, momsh, have you experienced this? Pa share naman sa comment section yung experience mo sa mga draining and micromanaging clients.๐Ÿ‘€

Freelancing Truth #12 from someone who has been on both sides, momsh

Can I ask you something?

Have you ever felt likeโ€ฆ

you know you can charge moreโ€ฆ

pero hindi mo pa rin magawa?

Youโ€™ve done the work.

May experience ka na.
May proof ka na din.
Alam mo na kaya mo.

But when itโ€™s time to increase your rateโ€ฆ

biglang may hesitation.

๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œBaka hindi na ako piliinโ€
๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œBaka mawala yung clientโ€
๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œBaka masyado akong mahalโ€

So insteadโ€ฆ

you stay where you are.

You keep the same rate.
You adjust.
You overgive a little more.

Not because youโ€™re not ready.

But becauseโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ‘‰ youโ€™re still trying to feel safe.

And thatโ€™s normal.

But hereโ€™s something Iโ€™ve seen from the hiring side.

Clients donโ€™t just look at your skills.

They also look at how you carry yourself.

If you sound unsureโ€ฆ

even if youโ€™re capable,

๐Ÿ‘‰ it creates doubt.

But when youโ€™re clear, calm, and confident in what you offer?

Iba yung dating.

Mas madaling magtiwala.
Mas madaling mag-yes.

So maybe the question is not:

๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œDeserve ko na ba magtaas?โ€

Maybe itโ€™s:

๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œHanda na ba akong panindigan yung value ko, yung worth ko?โ€

Because charging more is not just about pricing.

Itโ€™s about trusting yourself enough to ask for it.

Hindi lahat ng client para sayo.

And thatโ€™s okay.

The right ones?

They wonโ€™t be scared of your rate.
Theyโ€™ll be looking for someone who knows what they bring to the table.

Ikaw, momsh, have you ever held back from increasing your rate kahit ready ka na? ๐Ÿ‘€What made you pause?

Freelancing Truth #11 from someone who has been on both sides, momsh

Alam mo, momsh?

Sometimes when we feel underpaid, our first thought is:

๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œMy rate is too low.โ€
๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œClients donโ€™t want to pay.โ€
๐Ÿ‘‰"Ang barat lang talaga ng client."

And yes, may ganun naman talaga.

But sometimesโ€ฆ

itโ€™s not just about the rate eh!

Itโ€™s about how you position yourself.

From the hiring side, Iโ€™ve noticed this.

When a freelancer feels a bit:

โ€ข too general
โ€ข not clearly defined
โ€ข โ€œI can do anythingโ€

It becomes harder to understand:

๐Ÿ‘‰ what theyโ€™re really good at
๐Ÿ‘‰ how they can truly help

Not because theyโ€™re not capable, or kulang ang skills nila.

But because itโ€™s not clear.

Now compare that to someone who says:

๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œThis is what I specialize in.โ€
๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œThis is how I help clients.โ€

It feels different.

More clear.
More confident.
Easier to trust.

And naturallyโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ‘‰ easier to value
๐Ÿ‘‰ easier to pay more
๐Ÿ‘‰ easier to keep long-term

So maybe instead of asking:

๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œWhy is my rate still low?โ€

Try asking:

๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œIs my value clear enough to others?โ€

Because freelancing is not just about what you can do.

Itโ€™s about how clearly people can see it.

You donโ€™t have to change everything.

Sometimesโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ‘‰ you just need to be more clear.

Momsh, do you feel clear in how you present yourself? ๐Ÿ‘€ Or are you still figuring it out?

Let me know in the comment section.

Freelancing Truth #10 from someone who has been on both sides.

Momsh, minsan we feel likeโ€ฆ

ang bagal ng progress.
ang hirap makakuha ng clients.
parang walang opportunities.

And honestly?

Valid naman talaga yung feeling na yan.

But can I gently ask you this, momsh?

What ifโ€ฆ youโ€™re not stuck?

What if youโ€™re just not being seen yet?

Because from the hiring side,

we can only choose from people we see.

If youโ€™re:

โ€ข not sharing your work
โ€ข not talking about what you do
โ€ข not putting yourself out there, meaning hindi ka visible

then even if youโ€™re goodโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ‘‰ hindi ka talaga makikita.

And itโ€™s not your fault.

Most of us were taught to just:

๐Ÿ‘‰ work hard
๐Ÿ‘‰ do our best
๐Ÿ‘‰ wait for opportunities

But freelancing is a little different.

You donโ€™t just need to be good.

๐Ÿ‘‰ you need to be visible.

Not loud.

Not pushy.

Justโ€ฆ visible enough that the right people can find you.

Because opportunities donโ€™t always go to the best.

They go to the ones who are:

๐Ÿ‘‰ clear
๐Ÿ‘‰ visible
๐Ÿ‘‰ easy to remember

So maybe instead of asking:

๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œBakit parang ang hirap?โ€

Try asking:

๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œNakikita ba ako?โ€

Momsh, do you feel stuck right nowโ€ฆ or do you think you just need to be seen more? ๐Ÿ‘€

Freelancing Truth #9 from someone who has been on both sides.

Can I say this gently, momsh?

If you keep attracting low-paying clientsโ€ฆ

itโ€™s not always just them.

Minsanโ€ฆ itโ€™s also how we show up.

Iโ€™ve seen this so many times.

Freelancers who are:

magaling
masipag
reliable

But still getting clients who are:

๐Ÿ‘‰ barat
๐Ÿ‘‰ demanding, micromanaging
๐Ÿ‘‰ laging kulang or delayed ang bayad

And nakaka-frustrate siya, I know.

Kasi youโ€™re doing your best naman.

But hereโ€™s what I noticed from the hiring side.

When a freelancer:

โ€ข mabilis mag lower ng rate
โ€ข laging โ€œokay langโ€
โ€ข hindi klaro yung boundaries
โ€ข hindi masyado na-eexpress yung value

Clients take that as:

๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œOkay lang sa kanya.โ€
๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œPwede pa i-negotiate.โ€
๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œPwede pa dagdagan ng work.โ€

Not because theyโ€™re bad people.

But becauseโ€ฆ

thatโ€™s what weโ€™re showing them.

And over time, napapansin mo na lang,

same kind of clients na ulit.

So instead of asking:

๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œSaan ba makakahanap ng better clients?โ€

Maybe ask:

๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œPaano ba ako nagpapakita as a freelancer?โ€
๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œClear ba yung value ko?โ€
๐Ÿ‘‰ โ€œMay boundaries ba ako?โ€

Because better clients are not just found.

Theyโ€™re also attracted.

The way you communicate,
the way you price,
the way you set expectations,

lahat yan, signal.

And when those signals are clear?

Mas madaling dumating yung right clients.

Momsh, na-experience mo na ba to?

Na parang same type of clients paulit-ulit? ๐Ÿ‘€

What do you think made it that way?

Freelancing Truth #8 from someone who has been on both sides, momsh

Can I be honest, momsh?

A lot of freelancers today are trying to do everything.

A little social media.

A little admin.

A little content.

A little bit of everything.

And yes, nakakatulong siya at the start. Pero long-term? It can actually slow you down.

Because from the hiring side...

When I see a profile that says they do "everything," as an HR Director, I start thinking: โ€œOkayโ€ฆ but what are you REALLY good at?โ€

Compare that to someone who says:

โ€œThis is what I specialize in.โ€

โ€œThis is the specific problem I solve.โ€

Mas clear. Mas confident. Mas madaling i-trust.

And naturally?

Mas madaling bayaran ng mas mataas.

Mas madaling i-retain.

Mas madaling i-refer.

Itโ€™s not about knowing less. Itโ€™s about being known for something.

You donโ€™t have to figure it all out overnight. But at some point, you have to choose your direction. Because the more clear you are, the easier it is for high-level clients to say: โ€œIkaw yung hinahanap ko.โ€

Momsh, are you still exploring everything, or do you already know what you want to be known for?

Letโ€™s talk in the comments, ano ang "specialty" mo? ๐Ÿ‘€

11/04/2026

This season feels different.

Iโ€™ve always been mindful of my "yes." I donโ€™t just say yes to everything, and I learned to set boundaries early on.

But whatโ€™s different now...

Even if something looks good,
Even if it makes sense,
Even if it can grow my brand and business,

If itโ€™s not aligned with what Iโ€™m called to do in this season... I let it pass.

Don't get me wrong, I am truly grateful for all the opportunities coming in. Speaking engagements, collaborations, brand partnerships, client invites.

All of them good. All of them with potential.

If this was last year? As long as it didnโ€™t cross my non-negotiables, I would usually say yes.

And it worked! It helped me grow. My brand grew and my network expanded.

But God gave me a word for this season.

To be more strategic.
More intentional.
More discerning.

So now, I donโ€™t just filter based on whatโ€™s "good." I filter based on alignment.

I realized Iโ€™m called for more. And Iโ€™ve reached a point where I canโ€™t afford to say yes to everything, even the 'good' things, if they aren't part of my assignment.

Discernment is not just knowing whatโ€™s right or wrong. Itโ€™s knowing whatโ€™s right for you, even when everything in front of you looks like a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity.

As the Word says: "Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial." Not everything that looks like a win is actually good for the specific assignment youโ€™re on right now. I see this season as an assignment, and I want to steward it well.

So now, Iโ€™m more careful with my yes.
I take my time.
I donโ€™t rush decisions.
I only choose what aligns.

Moral of the story: Just because a door is open doesn't mean you have to walk through it. Sometimes, the most "proactive" thing you can do for your future is to say "no" to a distraction disguised as an opportunity.

Momsh...

Have you ever said yes to something you knew deep down wasnโ€™t really for you? Maybe the pay was great or the brand was big, but the alignment wasn't there? ๐Ÿ‘€

P.S. Comment if youโ€™ve been feeling this "shift" too. Iโ€™d love to hear how youโ€™re filtering your opportunities lately!

Freelancing Truth #7 from someone who has been on both sides, momsh.

Napansin mo ba 'to?

May mga freelancers naโ€ฆ
Ang bilis mag-grow.
Ang bilis mag-increase ng rates.
Ang bilis makakuha ng high-value clients.

While others?
Same skills. Same effort.
Pero parangโ€ฆ stuck pa rin.

So, whatโ€™s the difference?

Alam mo ang totoo, momsh?
Hindi dahil swerte sila. At hindi rin dahil mas magaling sila sa 'yo.

Most of the timeโ€ฆ
๐Ÿ‘‰ They move differently.

Freelancers who grow fast:
โ€ข They take action kahit hindi pa perfect.
โ€ข They ask the hard questions.
โ€ข They put themselves out there.
โ€ข They try, fail, adjust, and repeat.
โ€ข They donโ€™t let overthinking paralyze them.

While freelancers who stay stuck:
โ€ข They wait until "ready na." (Spoiler: Youโ€™ll never feel 100% ready.)
โ€ข They overthink every single post and email.
โ€ข They are terrified of making a mistake.
โ€ข They are scared of rejection.
โ€ข They choose the comfort zone over the growth zone.

Same potential.
Different behavior.
Different results.

Because at the end of the day, freelancing is not just about your hard skills.

Itโ€™s about:
๐Ÿ‘‰ How fast you move.
๐Ÿ‘‰ How willing you are to be a "beginner" again.
๐Ÿ‘‰ How brave you are to show up, even when you're nervous.

You donโ€™t need to be the "best" in the world to be successful. Trust me on this.

But you need to be:
โœ” Consistent.
โœ” Proactive.
โœ” Resourceful.

No offense, but sometimes we let our emotions and our "what ifs" get in the way of our business.

Boss moms donโ€™t do drama, we do business. We look at things through a professional lens.

Hindi ka stuck dahil hindi ka "enough."
Minsanโ€ฆ
๐Ÿ‘‰ Naka-hold back ka lang sa sarili mong takot.

Moral of the story: Skills can be learned, but your "will" is what actually closes the deal. If thereโ€™s a will, thereโ€™s a way.

Momsh, which one are you right now?
๐Ÿ‘‰ Taking action?
or
๐Ÿ‘‰ Still waiting to feel "ready"? ๐Ÿ‘€

P.S. Stop overthinking and just show up. The client is looking for a solution, not a perfect person. Let us know in the comments where you are in your journey!
