Gender equality awesome
“Babae yan, hindi bagay sa site!”
“Mga babae yan, naku walang maitutulong sa site yan!”
Breaking Stereotypes: Celebrating Women in Construction
As a male Engineer and Contractor, I have been immersed in a world often perceived as dominated by men – the construction site. I am proud to share that today, I am choosing to defy the status quo, to break these ingrained stereotypes and advocate for gender equality in every sector, including the world of construction.
You may notice something unusual in my attire today: my pink reflectorized vest. It's more than just a fashion statement – it's a symbol of my stand for women empowerment, a tribute to those bold enough to challenge traditional roles and make their mark in this field. Pink is often associated with femininity, but I wear it today to dispel the notion that femininity equates to weakness, to declare that femininity can stand strong amidst steel beams, concrete, and towering cranes.
Today is a particularly significant day in our company. We are welcoming our new trainees, a talented group of young individuals who are prepared to learn, to work, and to break barriers. And among them, are several bright young women, ready to redefine the notion of a "man's world".
To these young ladies, I say: Welcome to the construction world. This path you've chosen may not be easy, and you might face challenges and stereotypes at every corner. But remember that your gender does not define your skills, your strength, or your ability to succeed in this field. Your determination, your passion, and your resilience will speak for themselves.
I stand with you in the belief that a construction site is not just a place for men. Women are as much capable of being at the helm of a crane, on top of a scaffold, or behind the drafting table designing the next architectural marvel. I believe in your capacity to excel, to innovate, and to lead.
Today, we're not just constructing buildings, we're building a more inclusive world. A world where a woman in a hard hat is not an exception but a norm. A world where women empowerment is not a mere concept, but a reality that is lived and experienced every day.
