During lockdown, we weren't the only ones feeling isolated.
A pod of dolphins in Australia had grown used to daily visitors at their favorite café spot—people who'd feed them, play with them, watch them. Then suddenly in 2020, everyone disappeared.
So the dolphins started bringing gifts. Coral. Shells. Sea sponges. Even barnacle-covered bottles from the ocean floor. One dolphin brought 21 items in a single day, lining them up like he was trying to trade for just one fish.
Scientists say they probably just missed the free meals and routine. But watching these creatures respond to loneliness by offering what they had? That hits different.
Maybe we're not so different after all.
