One of the many outdoor restos and cafes at Old Damascus. This is special though because the wall behind with the massive door is that of Umayyad Mosque with its very rich history.

A resto. Most (perhaps all?) houses in the old city of Damascus have a cellar like this. These days many of the old houses there are turned into hotels with restaurants such as this one. Others are turned into shop or mini bars. Quite cozy and quaint.

Perspectives. Some spaces seemed to be trapped in time; in the past when everything was grand, glorious and majestic. Much happier times. Opening the thick draperies though, one would easily be reminded of the stark contrast of the present reality.

One good thing about travelling is that it allows you to experience spaces that could be a lot different than what you grew up in. It's always amazing to me how spaces come in many interpretation and forms. And how this actually depends on the culture, the seasonal weather... Here in Chisinau, one can actually find beautiful, old buildings with really thick walls and huge windows, very telling of how cold winters could be and how stiffling summers can become.

The DIY from scraps we had for building the closet worked quite well as the little one's side table. Just enough to hold her books, alarm-clock-cum-BT-speaker, diffuser and plant to help with air quality as she sleeps. Now, if only she'd stop sleeping with us 😂
