Hi! I’m "Olie", a Barista.
I call this my ‘dream job’ because I liked how it felt whenever I saw my customers enjoy the drink that I made for them. Believe me, it was an unexplainable rewarding feeling that made me want to improve my skills.
As my skills grow, and as I continue in the industry, I realized that coffee is not just a drink, or a cup to go or something that completes a day. It is a craft, an identity ⏤ and I really want to be identified as Olie ‘the Barista’.
Honestly, I don’t see myself working another job. I also don’t think I will ever find a job that gives the fulfillment of being a Barista.
As ideal as it may seem, fulfillment doesn’t sustain your bank account. For someone who lives in the Southmost part of the Philippines, 300 pesos a day won’t get me anywhere. They say reality hurts, and that was my reality.
One night, I was venting out to my sister about a bad day at work, telling how difficult it was for me. She nonchalantly told me, “Ganun talaga eh. That was your choice, but choose your hard.”
I never understood that, and even asked what she meant, but she didn’t bother responding. I later realized that I have to be accountable for the choices I made, because that’s how a grown-up should be.
After sleepless nights, and countless considerations, I decided to venture into something completely different. This will mean learning new things, going out of my comfort zone, and challenging my limits. But then, there’s nothing to lose, right?
As I hop on this journey as a Virtual Assistant in-the-making, the future might be unpredictable, but I am excited to see myself growing. Happy Monday everyone!
(If you reached this part of my story, thank you for making it this far! We may not know each other, but know that I am rooting for your success!)
