OVER 1 MILLION KAPAMPANGANS AFFECTED BY HABAGAT FLOODING

More than 1 million Kapampangans have been affected by the devastating impacts of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), while livelihood damages across Pampanga have reached nearly ₱948 million.

During a situational briefing on Monday, August 24, Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda made an urgent appeal to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for permanent and long-term flood control solutions to help protect the province’s low-lying communities from recurring catastrophic floods.

The briefing highlighted the severe impact of the flooding on families and livelihoods across the province. The agricultural sector, one of Pampanga’s major sources of livelihood, suffered significant losses, with crops, livestock, and egg production among those heavily affected by the widespread flooding.

Governor Pineda emphasized the need for lasting solutions to prevent Kapampangans from facing the same devastating cycle of flooding every time extreme rainfall strikes.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., together with Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon, conducted an aerial inspection over Pampanga and Bulacan today to assess the extensive flooding brought by consecutive typhoons and persistent monsoon rains.

From the air, vast portions of Pampanga were seen submerged under floodwaters, with communities and farmlands heavily affected by the continuing deluge.

The aerial inspection underscored the severity and widespread impact of the flooding, as thousands of families and local communities continue to face the challenges brought by the disaster.

The situation also highlights the urgent need for effective disaster response and long-term flood mitigation measures to protect Pampanga’s vulnerable communities.

SAUDEL STRENGTHENS, BUT NO DIRECT HIT EXPECTED IN PAMPANGA

According to DOST-PAGASA, Typhoon “Saudel” continues to rapidly intensify over the Philippine Sea but remains far from the Philippine landmass. No direct hit or landfall is expected in Pampanga or elsewhere in the country.

As of 10:00 AM, Saudel was located approximately 1,480 kilometers east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It has maximum sustained winds of 175 km/h near the center, with gustiness reaching 215 km/h and a central pressure of 940 hPa.

⚠️ However, Pampanga may still feel its indirect effects.

🌧️ Enhanced Habagat
Saudel is strengthening and pulling the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) across Luzon.

☔ More Monsoon Rains
The enhanced Habagat may bring widespread light to moderate rains, with occasional heavy downpours, across Central Luzon—including Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, and Bulacan.

🌊 Flooding and Landslide Risk
Prolonged rainfall may worsen existing flooding and trigger localized flooding or landslides, particularly in low-lying and vulnerable areas of Pampanga.

📌 No direct landfall does not mean no impact. Kapampangans are encouraged to remain alert and continue monitoring official PAGASA updates.

Personal na nagtungo si Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. sa Bacolor Mini Convention Center upang kumustahin at personal na makita ang kalagayan ng 65 pamilyang mula sa Barangays Tinajero at Talba na naapektuhan ng patuloy na pagbaha.

Sa kanyang pagbisita, sinuri ng Pangulo ang sitwasyon ng mga evacuees at ang mga pangangailangan ng mga pamilyang pansamantalang lumikas dahil sa pagbaha.

🌪️ Typhoon Saudel may enter PAR by Monday

Typhoon Saudel could enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Monday morning or afternoon, according to PAGASA.

As of 10:00 AM Sunday, Saudel was located approximately 2,085 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon, moving west-northwest at 25 km/h, with maximum sustained winds of 165 km/h and gusts reaching 205 km/h.

While the typhoon is forecast to remain far from the Philippine landmass and is not expected to make direct landfall, it may strengthen the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) by next weekend.

The enhanced Habagat could bring heavy rains to western Luzon, including Metro Manila, potentially increasing the risk of flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

🌧️ Pampanga residents are advised to stay alert and monitor official updates from PAGASA, especially as weather conditions may change.
