In the highlands of Sapang Uwak, the Aeta community has long preserved the tradition of cultivating the vibrant purple ube—an ancestral practice passed down through generations like a living heritage.

Today, this cultural legacy reaches beyond borders, traveling over 8,000 kilometers to New Zealand, where entrepreneur Alonzo Nieves is helping bring this indigenous crop to a global audience. Through his export startup, he navigates the growing digital marketplace, engaging with countless posts on ube seedlings and products to transform local agricultural heritage into international opportunity.

This journey reflects a powerful blend of tradition and innovation—showing how culture, community, and entrepreneurship can connect across great distances to share a common vision.

Built to serve with compassion and purpose, Pampanga Provincial Hospital Clark stands as a lifeline for indigent patients and hardworking Kapampangans facing the rising cost of healthcare.

Governor Lilia Pineda shared that the hospital was designed primarily to support those who cannot afford expensive medical care, with 70 percent of its services dedicated to underprivileged patients. The facility also aims to protect minimum-wage earners in Clark by ensuring they have access to quality healthcare without the fear of overwhelming expenses. Through the province’s zero-balance billing policy, patients can receive medical treatment with dignity and without financial burden.

The ₱601.74-million hospital was made possible through the collaboration of the Provincial Government of Pampanga, the Department of Health (DOH), the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). Additional funding from the Office of the President and the provincial government helped equip the hospital with advanced medical systems and modern diagnostic technology.

With a 143-bed capacity, the hospital offers services comparable to private institutions while remaining accessible to low-income families. It features specialized units such as the ICU and NICU, along with OB-GYNE, laboratory, radiology, cardiovascular, pulmonary, dental, and dietary services. The facility is also equipped with modern machines including CT scan, X-ray, endoscopy, and mammogram equipment, and is currently applying for PhilHealth YAKAP accreditation.

15/05/2026

Luzon may experience another round of rotating brownouts today, May 15, after the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed the Luzon Grid under a Red Alert from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, based on its 8 AM advisory.

According to NGCP, several power plants remain on forced outage or are operating at reduced capacity, leaving around 4,160 MW unavailable to the grid. Although key transmission lines such as the Tayabas-Ilijan and Dasmariñas-Ilijan 500kV lines have already been restored, affected power plants are still in the process of reconnecting to the grid.

A Red Alert status means electricity supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand, which may lead to rotational power interruptions in different areas to avoid a total grid shutdown.
