A community United: TACURONG CITY CEMENTARY AND LEBAK FOR UNDAS 2024
The air hung heavy with the coming rain, a familiar scent of damp earth and wilting flowers clinging to the raining breeze. In Tacurong City Public Cemetery and Lebak Cemetery a quiet hum of activity replaced the usual stillness. It wasn’t yet Undas, But the spirit of community was already alive. A group of reservists the men and women of the 1202nd READY RESERVE INFANTRY BATTALION(RRIBn) were hard of work, their green fatigues a splash of color against the grey tombstones. They were the “Laang Kalawal, Karamay Mo” volunteers, and their mission was simple: to prepare the cemetery for the influx of families coming to remember their loved ones.
Major Librado R Olunan Jr. the director of the 1202nd Community Defense Center, led the charge. With quiet efficiency the team moved through the rows of graves, clearing away debris trimming overgrown weeds, and ensuring the pathways were clear their laughter mingled with the scrape of rakes and rustle of leaves, a testament to their camaraderie and shared purpose. More than just a clean-up. It was of honoring those who rested there and offering comfort to those who would soon come to visit.
This wasn’t just about tidying up, was a tangible display of the Philippines Army Reserve Command commitment to community welfare. These Reservist embodied the Spirit of “BAYANIHAN” the Filipino tradition of communal unity and cooperation. In the quiet dedication of these volunteers, the true meaning of Undas-Remembrance, respect and community-shone brightly.
