My 1-Peso Thoughts: Be Socially Literate
September is Literacy Month—a perfect time to remind our young people that literacy is more than knowing how to read and write.
Yes, encourage them to go to the library, pick up a good book, and explore new worlds through reading. But also encourage them to put down their gadgets once in a while and explore the real social world.
Talk to people. Make friends. Join activities. Listen. Share ideas. Learn to communicate, cooperate, respect differences, and understand others.
In a world where children can connect with thousands of people online, we must also teach them how to connect meaningfully in real life.
Being socially literate means knowing how to communicate, build relationships, empathize, and participate in the community.
📚 Read a book. Put down the gadget. Start a conversation. Make a friend.
Because being literate is not only about understanding the words on a page.
It is also about understanding people—and knowing how to live, connect, and grow with them.
My 1-Peso Thought:
Let us raise a generation that is not only digitally and academically literate, but socially literate—confident enough to engage, kind enough to listen, and capable enough to belong.
