Project Deconstruction: Brewing Brand Identity for Primero Café

I'm revisiting and excited to share a past project that still holds a special place: the brand identity development for Primero Café. This endeavor wasn't just about crafting a visual; it was about distilling the essence of a warm, inviting coffee experience into a cohesive and memorable brand.

🫱🏻‍🫲🏼Client & Core Concept:
-Brand: Primero Café
-Industry: Specialty Coffee Shop
-Core Promise: To deliver delight through high-quality, freshly brewed coffee and innovative blends, creating a cozy haven for all visitors.

✅️Design Objectives & Approach:
The primary goal was to create a brand that felt both sophisticated and approachable, reflecting the rich aroma and comforting nature of coffee. My design process focused on:

1. 💭UNDERSTANDING THE SENSORY

Aroma & Taste: How to visually represent the richness of coffee? This led to the selection of warm, inviting colors.
Comfort & Coziness: The space needed to feel welcoming. This influenced the typography and overall visual tone.

2. 🪄VISUAL IDENTITY ELEMENTS:

Logo Mark: The core "Primero Café" logo was designed to be clean, readable, and subtly incorporate elements that evoke a sense of craftsmanship and quality.

Typography Selection:

DM Serif Display:
-Chosen for its elegance and classic feel, suitable for headings and main branding elements, conveying a sense of quality.

Montserrat:
-Paired for its modern, clean, and highly legible characteristics, perfect for body text, numbers, and practical applications, ensuring clarity.

Color Palette Development: A critical step in setting the mood.

-Vintage Taupe (` `):
Provides a warm, earthy, and sophisticated base, reminiscent of coffee and comfort.

-Sandstone Beige (` `):
A lighter, complementary tone that adds softness and balance, creating a clean aesthetic.

-Midnight Teal (` `):
Introduced as an accent, offering a touch of depth, uniqueness, and a slight modern edge, contrasting beautifully with the warmer tones.

3. ➡️APPLICATION & SCABILITY:

Packaging Design:
-Cups and bags were designed not just as containers but as brand touchpoints, extending the sensory experience. The goal was for them to feel good to hold and be visually appealing.

Signage & Collateral:
-Ensured consistent brand presence across physical spaces and essential items like business cards.

Tableware & Merchandising:
-Explored how the brand could extend to other physical elements, enhancing the café's ambiance.

Tools Utilized (from my recollection): Figma, ibisPaint X, Artboard Mockups.

This past project was a deep dive into translating coffee's sensory world into a tangible brand identity, underscoring the importance of a holistic design approach for a complete brand experience.

A soft beginning, shaped with intention.

This is my updated personal branding—built on rounded forms, gentle transitions, and a visual language that moves quietly but with purpose. A system that values clarity, emotion, and thoughtful simplicity.

I’m Drae—a self-taught Graphics & UI Designer, and a visual storyteller who believes good design doesn’t need to shout to be felt. It just needs to be honest, considered, and human.

This identity reflects how I work: calm, solutions-driven, and quietly confident.
Designing visuals that hold stories.
Building brands that feel like home.
