Direction of UX Careers Today
UX is moving beyond just ex*****on.

Companies increasingly need designers who can:
- Make better design decisions
- Recommend the right user flows
- Balance UX, technology, and business goals
- Facilitate workshops and pull ideas out of stakeholders
- Help teams reach a decision and move forward

That’s why I think the direction of UX is moving toward UX Consultant, Advisor, and Lead roles. If you're an aspiring or mid-level UX designer, don't just focus on becoming better at Figma or making better visuals.

✅ Learn how to lead your clients and product teams.

Gone are the days when you just wait for someone to give you a task. You should be able to look at where the product is today, understand where the team wants to go, and advise them on the best way to get there.

The future UX designer isn't just an executor. They're a decision-making partner.

ChatGPT made my wife cry 😢

Not because it diagnosed our daughter.
Not because it had all the answers.

Our 1-year-old was sick a month ago. We were already in touch with her pediatrician, but my wife wanted to understand the CBC results better (numbers, meaning, why some values are low, or which numbers are good). So she kept asking ChatGPT questions as she learned more.

End of conversation, ChatGPT final response is
"I hope Atarah is feeling much better soon. She's fortunate to have you watching her so closely."

We were sitting in a coffee shop.
I looked over and saw tears in her eyes.
It wasn't the medical explanation that got her.
It was feeling seen.

That moment reminded me that AI isn't just about speed, automation, or productivity. The experience matters just as much as the information. A well-designed interaction can make someone feel understood during one of the most stressful moments in their life.

As a designer, that's the part that excites me most. Not making AI sound human, but designing experiences that feel genuinely helpful when people need them most.

Busy week last week! Attended SAASCON PH 26, met people, and also got a traffic violation going home 😅

The reason for attending is to meet SaaS founders and practitioners and here's few things I want to share

- Many attendees were there for the same reason, to gauge the SaaS landscape in the Philippines 🇵🇭, understand market performance, and explore opportunities in the local ecosystem.

- One attendee shared that he wants to learn how AI can improve their DevOps process. He mentioned that Claude costs are skyrocketing right now, but despite that, he still sees massive opportunities to make DevOps more efficient and effective through AI.

- Asia appears to be one of the biggest adopters of AI today. One possible reason: the region has a huge workforce in both creative and technology industries. Since AI is heavily driven by usage, adoption naturally grows where there are more people actively creating, building, and experimenting.

- Lastly, I got a traffic violation on my way home (my fault, as I didn't see the traffic light while looking for a U-turn slot). Went home and tried contacting them for online payment - turned out, had to go back to their office and pay. I can see SaaS opportunity right there, though 🤣.

Anyway, SaaS & AI space in the Philippines is exciting! Looking forward to more events like this.
